Happiness on the Hudson.
My husband and I were given a gift certificate for our stay by our son, Brendan. It was just what we were looking for....the grounds are amazing, the view of the Hudson magnificent, the Hotel and the room were elegant and comfortable. The pool is beautiful. The spa is not open at this time, however. The staff was friendly and helpful. Love the breakfast sitting on the veranda looking at the the sailboats. A lovely spot for relaxing and being together. A great getaway for a couple

Not a $500+ per night experience.
Nobody at registration, just a card with a number to text which is useless if you don't have a cell phone with you. Self parking very inconvenient as all close parking reserved for valet use even though no valets present. Inside shower door handle missing so unable to close shower door. 2:00 AM noise level from adjoining room very loud. No answer at front desk phone, just a pre-recorded message. Had to dress and wander the corridors looking for staff. Nobody at front desk, just a card with a number to text again. Finally located a staff member who took care of the issue so we could sleep a few hours. A wonderful historic building which we hoped to enjoy but our experience was extremely disappointing. Will not stay here again and cannot recommend.

Dont pick
Location was beautiful and staff were kind during my stay. After leaving they hit me with unknown fees and costs. No one ever picks up the phone when you call the front desk.

Not what we expected.
This trip was underwhelming, to say the least. When you book a night in a hotel, you expect it to be something to write home about. This was not that kind of experience. Check in was smooth and the people behind the desk were pleasant. We went to the “bar” a bit after it opened, but the only thing that made it a bar was the fact that it had a bar top in it. There was one waiter that was running between the “bar” and the semi-private dining that was occurring. We ordered simple…whiskey on the rocks…and received them in pint glasses (not how you serve whiskey). The waiter only knew one kind of whiskey they had so that’s what we got. We had to sit in the waiting area because there was a couple sitting at one of the two tables in the “bar” and it get like we were intruding on their meal. It was just awkward! The decor is strange as well. Eclectic is probably the best way to put it. Bright purple chair in my stately castle deluxe suite….Nothing matched or even went together. We were perplexed by it at every turn. We toured the grounds the following day and it looks like it’s seen better days. Not well maintained at all. We’re about 20 years too late.

Magical and Spooky
The castle is beautiful. The room we reserved was not in the castle proper, but in an adjacent wing built in the 90s. Nonetheless, it was beautiful and felt like a magical (albeit somewhat spooky) place to stay. I can't wait to come back in summer (when the pool and the hot tub are open). Beds were a little too soft. Would definitely recommend.

Hard to keep the bathroom warm. Started the water in the tub and it came out rusty. Fire alarm went off in the morning and took a long time to fix. We stood outside in the cold. No dining on a Sunday so we ordered take out. Thought it would be fancy but actually felt dated.
