Dawn is very friendly and also very knowledgeable about the surrounding area as to good restaurants and places to see. It was very clean and certainly Victorian in its decor.

The Mermaids' Porch Bed and Breakfast, Portsmouth
My stay with Dawn and Jack was fantastic! Great location, within a few blocks of the water and downtown Portsmouth. Extremely hospitable and informative host and comfortable lodging, full of history and local charm. Fabulous homemade cookies and a delicious breakfast in the beautifully appointed dining room! Wish I could have stayed longer.

Prime Relaxation
There is absolutely no comparison between a fine BnB and a standard hotel, whether on business or pleasure. The Mermaid's Porch provided such relaxing respite from a work trip that I almost believed I was on vacation. From oven-fresh oatmeal cherry cookies to front porch swinging to evening hot tub soaking, I felt completely pampered at every moment of my stay. The atmosphere is lovely and full of exotic art and artifacts from the world over. My personal quarters were clean, roomy and comfortable with period tile in the bathroom, crystal doorknobs, and antique touches throughout. After a rejuvenating sleep, I awoke to a home-cooked breakfast at the time I had specified upon check-in. Fruit, yogurt, omelette, potatoes, ham, coffee, juice...needless to say, I set of to work with a full and happy belly. Dawn is a jewel of a hostess, as well, and provided plenty of interesting conversation and great recommendations for food and fun around Portsmouth and Norfolk!
