Great place to stay on a budget.
Every thing inside is great the employees are amazing and professional for the. Only downside would be the area it's located in. It's not a great neighborhood but as long as you're vigilant of your surroundings and the unsavory characters on the street you should be fine. This is a big city travel with street smarts.

A short two nights stay.
Hostel is near tenderloin so avoid walking to certain area to left side of the front door, or near Market street two blocks from Market street and Market street thru 8th streets many questionable people. Many times homeless or crazy person at front door. Front door to the right is fine to Union Square, Chinatown is quite convenient. The bathroom is hard to use, hard to wash hands, space is tight and uncomfortable. Bedroom doors must make sure it was locked when you got in, otherwise people can just open and walked in while you are sleeping. Door do not auto locked. Which is not safe for girls. Continental breakfast the only fruit is banana, so I really don’t have much I want to eat. Eating out is quite expensive. Storage for luggage is tightly controlled so that is good.

Beyond my expectations
I had read many comments before taking this hostel, some really bad reviews, so I was expecting something bad happened to me, but my experience was totally different. The place is clean, with a nice lobby, the people on the counter was friendly and helpful. My only complaint is the towels, they just give you a small one, and charge $1 for a bigger one. The room was clean, I rented a 4 shared female room with bathroom in suite. You have a plugger and reading light in your bunk, also a locker for your belongings. The room was comfortable, it’s cold though, so the blanket is warm but not enough. If you have a light sleep, use earplugs, the noise in the street could be a problem, it wasn’t for me. The free breakfast is a life saver. I didn’t really spent a lot of time at the hostel because I was sightseeing, but in my experience it was just perfect. The location is strategic, a few blocks down to Union Square and the famous cable car, and the BART (Powell Street), it’s true that are a lot of homeless in the area, but that is kind of normal in that part of the city, they are harmless even when some parts of the area look sketchy. I travel alone, and I could have a insecurity feeling sometimes but I just walked normal straight to my destinations.
