Tucked away, but close to waterfall
We arrived late at night after a delayed flight landing and a mix-up with the car rental. Since we arrived so late, we were unable to access our provided room. A short call to the reception phone number, and they kindly moved us to another location (within the same area) and gave us a room.
We woke up the next morning to a beautiful mountain view, running river water, and a tasty breakfast.
Unfortunately, our room was damp and smelled a bit like mildew; BUT, the bed and bathroom were very comfortable.
We may consider staying again on our next drive around the ring road.

A diamond in the rough. Very rough.
In a great location, just east of Vik and near many fascinating sights, this very minimal lodging is not inviting. This place had less to offer than the hostel we squeezed into in London; it should be listed as such. "Guest House" is not really accurate. Beautiful cliffs outside the door, but rusting junk outside our window. And only two single bathrooms to be shared by lots of (on our night: 11) strangers. The kitchen was nice, but we were not informed that there was one, so it was of no value to us. There is real potential here, but the managers need to make the experience personable in many ways, not just basically functional.

Dissapointing building from the outside but very nice clean recently updated room inside. Lots of space in the large family room that sleeps four. Our only problem on check in was that the wifi wasn't working and it took several tries to reach someone by phone in order to help us. We never did get wifi. The kitchen facilities are great. Overall good value for the money. Remember this is a guest house and not a hotel.

Good location - nice and clean
We stayed one night. The room was very clean, beds, pillows and duvets very comfortable. It looked like it had been recently renovated and everything was new. All the kitchen essentials were available. There wasn't much in the way of communication with the owners and directions were not great but we did find it. We were hiking in Skogar the next day so the location was great.

Very basic guest house, go at last resort.
We wanted to stay near Vik and this came up, we were doing the Ring road. Had difficulty in finding the place. The rooms are very small, very little place in room, the beds take all the space. The kitchen is OK, two bathrooms.
If this is all you can find, it is OK for the night.

Lodge not for consideration in Iceland
I should have never booked North Star Guesthouse. They did not provide any self check-in instructions for two nights of stay. Once we got there, it looked like an abandoned house coming out of the blue. No one was available by phone or in person to help us get in. Once we were connected by phone, North Star Guesthouse staff refused to provide any check-in guidance. Lodging personnel did show neither greetings nor kind service to international guests.

The worst guesthouse in South coast of Iceland
It was the worst lodge we've ever booked in Iceland in the past six years of our trip to this beautiful island. First, the owner/manager did not provide any instructions of self check-in prior to our arrival. Second, when we got there and attempted to reach the manager for almost an hour by phone, no one picked up the phone. Nor was anyone available to speak with in the guesthouse. We ended up to look for the last-second alternative lodge in South coast of Iceland. Third, when we returned to the North Star Guesthouse on Day 2 and tried to get check-in instructions, no one picked up phone again. The hotel cleaner advised us to speak with a hotel nearby that may be managed by the same owner. When we were finally able to reach and speak with the manager over phone, she refused to give us self check-in instructions. She told us she would refund the two nights and asked to find our own lodge. This was non-sense and the worst way to treat hotel guests. We booked and fully paid for this lodging more than three months ago. Refusing the guests like this way was unheard of! We are advising all tourists NEVER to lodge in North Star Guesthouse and any other hotels affiliated with this place.

Worst hotel/guesthouse in 13 day Iceland tour
First, extremely difficult to find. Only marked by a small sign on the door of what looks like an abandoned cottage. (See picture). Had to ask at a neighboring hotel, which turned out to be owned by same company. Room was stark. Not even a dresser or table, just beds. Heat couldn't be turned down. Wifi didn't work (and from reading other reviews, apparently never has.) Walls paper thin--heard any time front door or room doors opened and closed. Two bathrooms for 5 rooms--and the lock didn't work on one. Kitchen crowded in the morning. Not a big enough table or enough chairs. Not a comfortable couch or chair in the place.
Worst guest house during our Iceland stay. One of the worst I've ever stayed in outside the 3rd world.
And worst of all, the most expensive hotel of our trip!
