The Ambrose, Santa Monica
Excellent Hotel and Wonderful Staff
The special nature of The Ambrose is in the quality of the people there. They are friendly, courteous, professional and really make you feel welcomed as a guest. Meanwhile, the hotel itself is cozy and welcoming. A very nice lobby/dining are/library are all attached to a pleasant outdoor sitting area. The rooms are on the large size, very clean, with nice linens and beds, a huge TV and well appointed mini bar. The have a nice early evening reception for guests as well.

Patient recovery disaster hotel
Absolute worst hotel of my life anywhere in the world! From first as a patient brought their by a Nurse from recovery hospital, I had preconfirmed my room & arrival time, when we got to the room it was not the room (their best) I reserved. My nurse called front desk, said it wasnt cleaned yet. After many calls every hour, after 7 hours they said my room was ready...all the time knowing I had just come from a surgery center and was not well! That was just the beginning of the worst hotel, list goes on and on@

Scary place
Terrible experience at this hotel.

Was surprised to drive up and see major construction going on a hotel. Would have preferred a heads up and perhaps a slight discount given workers all over, paint fumes, etc.

Very Good8.0
Nice hotel
Overall, a good stay. Pros: nice room, good amenities, breakfast is continental but has some protein and good options. Had room service breakfast as well, it was fine, though they got little requests wrong. The neighborhood is a little noisy but there are places to eat within walking distance. The staff is very friendly and was helpful with suggestions etc. Cons: Incredibly smelly pillows and headboard, smelling of dirty hair. When are hotels going to learn that just throwing a pillowcase on a pillow doesn't mask the rank smell of thousands of heads? To their credit they did give me a couple of "fresh" pillows that were better but still kind of smelly. The hotel doesn't have the facility amenities you would associate with the price level, but it did look like they were renovating and expanding, quite a bit of construction going on there during my stay. One more note: the fire alarm went off about 10 pm. At no point was there any communication from staff about what was going on and how to proceed, and no one was answering at the front desk. One of the guys on our floor had to walk down and find out what was up, and reported back to us that it was a "small kitchen fire" and that it seemed to be ok. But that was NOT professional or safe, to have something like that occur and have no sign of staff at all. Management should do a quick training on what staff responsibilities should be in that situation. In all, I'd stay there again...though I might bring my own pillow. ;)
