$40 extra to use the pool? Ridiculous!
The hotel itself was fine, pretty garden, great views. The concierge was very helpful. The reason my review is negative is that I can't stand when hotels feel the need to nickle and dime their own guests. We already paid a lot to stay there, yet everything was an additional charge. What hotel charges its guests an extra $40 (US) to use the pool? How ridiculous.

Wonderful hotel. Really a resort. The weather was not the greatest but I didn't mind because everything I needed was right in the property. When the rain stopped I really enjoyed the amazing garden with ponds, trails, benches, waterfall, and hidden gem of a restaurant. Really a special place.

Bait & Switch on Room Choice, Needs Updates Badly
I booked a non-smoking king-bed room (the main reason I chose this hotel was the supposed availability of such within my price range) and upon arrival was told there were none. After a long wait, I was told I could get a non-smoking twin bed. I suspect the wait was to allow someone to remove ashtrays and spray air freshener in a smoking room because it was obvious that someone had smoked there. The "air conditioner" is not really controlled at the room level. No matter how low I set the thermostat, the room never got below 23C, presumably the limit for the entire hotel. The room and hotel itself seem like they hadn't been updated since 1960. The room furnishings were antiquated and the room smelled musty (and smoky - see above). The blinds didn't close entirely shut, giving the people in the office building across the way a lovely view of this middle-aged gaijin. I could go on. For what they charge, I was thoroughly disappointed with this hotel and will never, ever stay there again. I recommend spending a little more and staying at the Cerulean Tower in Shibuya if that location is acceptable.
