Good location and price, lovely staff
Well located in mid levels, bus 12 stops right in front and takes you to central pier, or turn right out the front, short walk along Robinson Rd, then along Mosque St takes you to the escalators which takes you through lots of restaurants and shopping areas and down to the harbour. The room was very small but clean, quiet, with a very comfortable large bed and a great view down to the harbour. All staff were friendly, helpful and kind, offered lots of advice about transport and let us take umbrellas for the day when it was raining. We asked for a late check out but were only offered 1 extra hour without having to pay for half a day. But we were offered the ideal solution - we just wanted to shower and change after a full day sightseeing before we caught an 11pm plane. There are showers on the 1st floor for the swimming pool. We were given clean towels, there was soap, shampoo and hairdryer in the clean showers and changeroom. And to top it off, the hotel provides a free shuttle bus down to the central train station where you can check in your bags with your airline and take the train out to the airport. All very easy and stress free. The hotel will send the bus to the train station to collect you if you book in advance direct with the hotel. While the room was small, we were very happy with our whole experience of the hotel. Well worth what we paid. Well done Bishop Lei.

    Clean, friendly but small room
Located in the mid-levels residential district, the hotel was in a relatively quiet area of Hong Kong away from the noise and traffic fumes of some of busier areas. There were several eating places within walking distance from the hotel. My single room was small; there was no place to even put my suitcase. Even the safe was smaller than the ones I have seen before, too small to hold a 13" laptop. On the plus side, the staff was friendly, the room was clean and the bed comfortable. The wardrobe was big enough that I was able to unpack my suitcase and put all my clothes in it. Local calls were free, but they tried to charge me for 2 international calls that I didn't make (why would I when it's free from the Handy phone). The wifi was free but didn't support VPN to PPTP servers. It also sent a continuous stream of packets to the connected device causing severe battery drain. My phone lost 40% of battery overnight when connected to the hotel wifi compared to 2% when not. When I mentioned it to the staff at reception they had no idea what I was talking about. The free use of the Handy smart phone was a real bonus, providing free internet access on the move as well as free international calls to a number of countries. I was surprised and impressed that it included calls to UK mobiles. Discounted tickets to attractions could be purchased through the phone too. A bus stop right outside the hotel made it easy to get to places.

    Convenient hotel for most people.
The Bishop Lei through Expedia was at very good rates. The staff were very helpful and curious. After a day or so looking around Hong Kong and finding our feet we realised that it was ideally situated far enough away from the noise of the traffic and nightlife, but also right next to some key features of Hong Kong. Hong Kong is pretty much built on a hill side throughout, but we found the hotel on the correct level to go left across to the Botanical Gardens, The Peak Tramway and Hong Kong Park, and then right to the top of Soho with it's bustling nightlife and the Mid Level Escalators the quickly take you down (before 10am) and up from the IFC Shopping Centre and onwards to the harbour. We could get to and from the harbour within 20 minutes and very little strenuous walking by utilising the Mid Level Escerlator system. We found the nicest way to visit the husstle and busstle of the Wan Chi shopping area was to take a pleasent stroll through the Botanical Gardens past the Tramway and through Hong Kong park slowly winding sideways and down on foot the whole way. All in all I would stay again at the Bishop Lei. The standard rooms were tiny (smaller than a Travelodge in the UK) but I have been told that that is the norm in Hong Kong. The Harbour View rooms were quite a bit more spacious (we had a look) but in my opinion, if you're there to simply sleep and don't mind your empty case being on the floor next to your bed then they are fit for purpose.

    Disappointing
When travelling I always try to keep a positive attitude, things are bound to go wrong somewhere along the way. I've never written a bad review about a place before but this experience really upset me. Upon check in ( my flight was late, it was around 11pm) I gave the clerk my credit card and he processed it and said sorry declined ( I had just used it so I knew this was unlikely) against my better judgement I gave him a second card , he said oh declined.... now I was feeling annoyed but gave him my third and last credit card... This one works he said, the charge was 650 Canadian dollars ( they need a deposit, fine) I noticed they had charged me for one night already through my bank account so I inquired and he said I'll make sure it's urgently refunded. Worried about my cards, I head to my room to investigate. Here I find that he has charged all three cards 650 dollars and the original deposit. This is over 2000 dollars and I've been here for 30 minutes. I went back to show him and he seemed annoyed. He wrote down the info and said our banks are closed, it's the weekend...you'll get your money refunded within 5 business days. Very, very annoying. I also asked them to get me a cab at 7 am to make it for my ferry the next morning and at 7:15 I was still standing there waiting. Staff don't seem to care about customers. I would never stay here again, I'm annoyed I didn't just leave that first night.

    Gong Kong at Bishop Lei
Atop of Central - considered the mid-levels. Although transportation in Hong Kong is wonderful, along with nearby escalators to help get you to Robinson Road... be prepared to walk this area. If you do, you'll find an amazing ecosystem tied in to a very small part of the past giving way to the current. Around that corner leads to one of the most amazing zoos in the world! Take that tangent and hike the scenic views from above. Nearby grocery store for the do it yourselfers....coffee shops to start the morning, and an array of expensive restaurants. Dong Kong is a little crazy... the locals must be tired of the consistent flow of tourists that constantly invades their mass density. I felt that the locals were a bit rude, maybe too shrewd. But if you are here for a month or just a day...and on somewhat of a budget - the Bishop Lei is at a great junction - just be prepared to walk (unless you taxi it or shuttle it). Hotel itself is a bit dated but clean and although small I found it rather comfortable. Thank you to Theresa and a few others at the front desk staff that did not discriminate which (who) made me feel welcomed in an often cold city for people like me.
