Avoid
This hotel should be closed. Drain in shower slow and filled up with scummy water. AC in room didn't work. Couldn't leave windows open because I was on street level but there weren't any bars on the windows. They woke me up in the middle of the night to collect a city tax. The reason given for waking me up in the middle of the night was that the person who was going to work the desk the next day called in sick. "Luggage room" is a closet right next to the front door (which cannot be seen from the front desk) with no lock on it. They attempted to collect city tax from two of my credit cards. Both cards have chips but they refused to use the chips, just swiped. They also wrote the credit card numbers down for some reason. Room was not very clean.

Bastion Budapest.
Good location. Had to change rooms as the first room was inadequate. Hotel is a 3 star hotel at best.

Great hotel in the center of Budapest!
I stayed here with a friend who was visiting from Vienna, and it was both of our first times in Budapest. The hotel room was very comfortable, clean and neat. I liked that there was a balcony outside of our room. The hotel is within the city center, and within walking distance from the metro (Kalvin Tér stop). The breakfast that was served was also quite nice. I'd definitely recommend staying here if visiting Budapest.

Great location. Great staff.
Great hotel. Location is wonderful -- tucked away on a side street.

Good location, comfortable, and free wine!
I read some of the criticisms of the hotel, but did not have any such problems myself. The shower did have a few weak spots that let water out, but it was definitely not a major issue. I found the staff to be very friendly and helpful, though slightly more direct in how they speak than you might expect (which is typical of Hungarian culture, from what I've learned thus far). I found this endearing rather than off-putting. The free breakfast was sufficient, if not amazing. Definitely enough to fill me up before I headed out for the day. There was also a free bottle of wine waiting in the room. Hungarian wine is underrated, and while the provided bottle was not top-end (it was free, after all), it was still a nice touch. Can't argue with free booze. Overall, I enjoyed my stay. The location is also good, though maybe initially hard to find if you're navigating there yourself. No matter where you choose to stay, definitely visit Budapest! Such a beautiful city.
