One night in Mexico City
A little hard to find and directions from airport to hostel by metro could have been clearer but all in all a quaint place. Pretty comfy. They let us check in early which was SO appreciated after a red-eye flight!!

Good location and price. Bed was hard for our tastes while I'm sure others would appreciate the firmness.

I really liked they are not bunk bed so there is no climbing up and down. The rooms have high ceiling and feels roomy.

- One morning maintenance started repairing something on the property at ***8:15 AM***, with extremely loud hammering that lasted for an hour. No warning was given by management about this maintenance work. - There's a water filtering machine but the property only wheels it out around breakfast time and then takes it away. Very annoying (but FYI, fill up your water bottles during this time). - As someone else pointed out, the doors to the rooms, even the private rooms, have large windows in them that are covered by see-through drapes. So you can literally see in everyone's [private] room, which doesn't feel very uhhh private. - The breakfast was: bread, jam, orange juice, coffee, and bananas. Nothing more. - Wasn't a particularly social hostel, at least when I was there. More of a homebase for seeing tourist sights around the area. - Overall, decent affordable spot in good area, especially if they fix the see-through window situation with the private rooms. Not a party hostel by any means.

Cozy home near the center of DF!
This is a great place to stay if you're on a budget and we were lucky enough to get an upgraded room with two beds instead of one. Lots of space for two people and beautiful courtyard + common room.

Great, comfortable, and affordable.
A beautiful hostel in walking distance from all the hotspots. I will definitely come back to Casa San Ildefonso whenever I return to Mexico City. It's a gorgeous setting, cozy, quiet, and with lovely people manning the desk. Pros: So beautiful! I can't remember the last time I was in such a picturesque accommodation. Helpful and friendly staff. 24-hour security -- I felt very safe. Excellent location, very close to the Zocalo and lots of great food and other points of interest. Delicious if limited free breakfast. Affordable! I can't believe the deal I got. Cozy, spacious rooms with nice warm blankets on the beds. Cons: Sound REALLY carries. I was woken up a couple of times by the ungodly snoring from the man next door to me; the people downstairs were early risers and their conversation echoed in the courtyard and woke me up too. Once, I came home from a day out and found my door into the shared courtyard that led to the bathroom wide open. I had closed it and locked it when I left, and it would swing closed unless it was pushed all the way open, so housekeeping must have left it open. That worried me because it meant anyone in the other room that shared the courtyard could have walked in and taken anything in my room, but I didn't speak to management because I was hurrying out the door. Nothing was taken. The hot water was hit or miss -- when it was there it was nice and hot, but usually it only got up to lukewarm. Wifi got spotty in the last few days.

Quaint, historical accomodation.
Nice old historical building in the heart of old Mexico City. Within walking distance to many museums and churches as well as easy access to buses and taxis. It is basic but nice with a complimentary breakfast provided. No cooking but there is a frig, microwave and toaster oven available. Shared bathrooms for most rooms. The staff was very friendly and helpful and most spoke/understood basic English. Fairly quiet for an inner city location. We enjoyed our stay.
