Rough guy at the bar where you check in. Entrance to the street was not secure. Rooms were tiny even by european standards. No lift which in amsterdam is common. Stairs were big though. Spend the extra money and stay out on the canals.

The full Amsterdam Experience, for good and bad...
The thing everyone says about the steep and narrow stairs is VERY TRUE. My room was on the fourth floor and it was a workout getting up there. It was a little odd checking in at a random bar, only to be led down the street to where the actual rooms were. The room itself was small but cute and mostly clean, with a great view of the Oude Kerk and the tops of all the canal houses. The hotel is within easy walking distance to the train station, the red light district, and numerous coffee shops, bars, restaurants, canals, and all the other great things Amsterdam has to offer. The only problem is there is a lot of foot traffic in the area and the walls are thin, so noise and smells are an issue. This is a great hotel for someone looking for a place to crash after a fun night out in Amsterdam. Families, business travelers, people with lots of luggage, or someone who just needs a good nights sleep would be best looking elsewhere.

Worst hotel ever stayed in my life in Amsterdam
Worst experience All that was told inthe website on hotels .com are lies No air conditioner, no lift , steep stairs Dirty carpet in the reception Breakfast is a rip off , don't try , they charge you a fortune for NOTHING!!! It's not worth even 25% of the price paid ( apprx100 euro per day) Only plus point is location Single room is just 7x6 feet withe roof touching when hands are stretched of which 2.5 x6 feet cot and mattress , no table only small stool . Bathroom is 2.5 x7 feet , with bath cubicle is 2.5x2.5 feet , can't even bend inthe bath !!. A 6 inch wash basin almost comes over the commode !

Old Nickle
The hotel was perfect for us. The room was clean, modern, and very comfortable. There is a karaoke bar across the street, so it was a little loud at night, but we were not in the center of Amsterdam to sleep. Hundreds of restaurants, bars, cafes, and "coffee shops" within a 5 min walk. The stairs were very steep, and not suitable for the elderly or disabled, more like a ladder than stairs really. We will return to the old nickle on our next trip to Amsterdam.
