OAXACA--Casa Antigua
Love Oaxaca--done Mexico 25+ times, and keep coming back here. Casa Antigua is an outstanding hotel--quiet street and great location. Will be back next year!

Loved this hotel. Rooms were clean, staff friendly although did not speak much English. The coffee with the continental breakfast was awesome. Nice rooftop to hang out on with pretty views. There is a bar in the hotel and one across the street, and several in short walking distance. Food was good at the hotel. I used the white noise app on my phone to drown out street noise. There was a slight sewer smell at times on the rooftop but this hotel was great. I stayed at two others in Oaxaca and this was by far my favorite.

Four nights in Oaxaca
The hotel is well-located in the center of Oaxaca. Our room was rather large although a bit dark. it includes a continental breakfast. The hotel has a local and traditional flavor. Good price/value.

Almost there
The good: The location is second to none. Absolutely a quick walk to everything central Oaxaca has to offer. The service, both at the front desk and at the restaurant was also very pleasant and accommodating. The not so good: While clean and well appointed, the rooms needed better maintenance. For example, the bathroom faucet was so clogged, that turning it on simply sprayed water all over the counter and the person standing in front of it. Water pressure was absolutely non-existent, Toilet seat was broken, and in the double bed room (We had two rooms) the beds were absolutely rock hard...Like sleeping on the floor hard...Like wake up in the middle of the night with numb lungs hard. We had to fold a bunch of blankets over the mattresses to be able to just barely be comfortable. The King bed room was somewhat better, but not great and in both rooms the pillows absolutely sucked: Uneven with a bunch of clumps. By "developing country" standards this would qualify for a 4 star hotel, no question. By western world standards a 2.5 at best.....which isn't terrible. Could be a 4 with very few upgrades.

Outstanding Hotel
Spent 7 wonderful nights at Hotel Casa Antigua. It is the perfect mix of traditional exterior and charm with modern comfort and conveniences in the guest rooms. The location is PERFECT and safe! Two blocks in one direction and you are at Santo Domingo and three blocks in the other direction you are at the Zocolo. One block from the hotel is the pedestrian street of Alcala with many restaurants and shops. I stayed in a Junior Suite which had two double beds and a very large bathroom with a huge shower. TIP: there is plenty of hot water, you just have to use the correct tap. keep in mind that the "C" on the handle does NOT stand for cold, it stands for caliente (HOT). The one with the "F" is frio or cold. The rooms might seem dark to some since the lovely shuttered windows face the courtyard. I found there to be plenty of lamps and lights within the guestroom and I would rather have a quiet and cool room than natural light in the room and hear all the outside noise. Room was exceptionally clean with excellent furnishings. There is a beautiful roof top terrace with spectacular views and shaded areas to sit and enjoy or take photos. There is a restaurant in the courtyard of the hotel. I had breakfast there and it was delicious and fairly priced. The staff and owners were very friendly and helpful. I speak Spanish fluently but several of the staff spoke excellent English.
