Honeymoon in Iceland
We loved our stay at the Alda Hotel. The hotel is right in the downtown bar and shopping district and almost everything is in walking distance. The hotel sits in the area where buses are not allowed, but th Hlemmur bus stop for airport shuttles and excursions is only two blocks away. We arrived at the hotel around 5:30 AM and were lucky enough to be able to check-in even at this very early hour. This availability all comes down to if you're room was open the night before, but if availablie the staff will allow you to check-in. If not available, they off to hold your bags for you while if you go back out. Our room was on the fourth floor and was the perfect choice. The room was minimalist, while providing everything you need in style and comfort. The 4th floor rooms have access to a large communal balcony with an incredible view across the city and across the harbor to the beautiful mountains which look amazing on both sunny and cloudy days. Our bed was incredibly comfortable and we both slept uninterrupted without ever hearing a sound from other guests. The bathroom is sleek and the shower feels amazing. The natural hot spring fueled water is hot right away and the waterfall shower head was key. The lobby of the hotel has a very stylish barber shop and a very good restaurant (the Brass Kitchen & Bar, also called the Barber Bar) which is vegetarian friendly. Breakfast in the hotel is very satisfying with many healthy and declicious options. The Alda was an incredible choice

Modern hotel close to shopping and restaurants
This is a modern hotel with a Nordic design. Located on the main shopping and restaurant road in is perfectly located as a jumping off point. You can also walk to many of the sights and museums since Reykjavik is pedestrian friendly. And, all tour companies offer hotel pick-up/drop-off (note: drop-off at Alda, for coach bus tours only, is usually a couple of blocks away since the street is narrow). The staff was very friendly and helpful. We arrived early in the morning and they checked our bags, gave us map, and some hints on places to eat lunch. Upon check-in the cell phone was a nice touch especially because there is no phone or clock in the room. We found it very helpful when navigating the city or confirming tours. The Deluxe Standard room comfortably accommodated two guest. However you are given one queen bed with two comforters and four small pillows. There is no dresser, the room has open shelving and a small rack for hang clothes (6 hangers total). For those that live out of their bags, there is no stand to place it, unless you utilize the small bench under the shelves or keeping the bag(s) on the floor. The bathroom is relatively small by US standards but, does have a hair dryer which was one less thing to pack. Also the towels were smaller and not as luxurious for the quality of the hotel. However, the room comes with a bathrobe and slippers which somewhat make up for the towels

Fabulous hotel, busy location, great staff,
I wasn't sure from the photos how good this hotel was going to be. It was less money than the top hotels in Reykjavik and I thought there would be a reason for that. Turns out it was a great hotel and can't fault a single thing. It had a good vibe and the staff were so welcoming and helpful (sharply dressed fashionable young men). On check in they provide you with a cell phone to use during your stay which was a great benefit, particularly as there were 5 of us and we had 2 rooms so we got 2 phones and could call each other, thereby avoiding costly international calls on our own cell phones. The elevators were quick and always available and the rooms felt newly decorated, very comfortable beds, nice art work, and over all high quality. The lobby area is lively and nicely decorated and there was a nice warm fire place. The restaurant looked good but pricey and the barber shop added to the fun feel. If you care about the work out area, it is small but has the basic equipment, the sauna is nice and the hot tub is good enough but nothing special. We returned to Reykjavik a few nights later to a more expensive hotel which I had originally thought would be the nicer one when I first booked them but I was wrong! Alda won hands down. I suppose the only small downside for some might be that its just a little further from some of the main attractions, but only about a half of a mile further and its such a nice area to walk around any way that that doesn't really matter.

centrally located hotel, great place to stay
This place was great and served my purposes for a 4 night stay in the capital. Great base to work out of for my visit as it is centrally located on the far end of the main street in the capital so it is an easy walk from everything that is happening. I rate the staff(sorry no names) as superior, starting w the front desk guy who set me up w an awesome plan for my first day trip when I arrived at 8am on Easter Sunday. Everyone else who was at the front desk during my stay was equally helpful, courteous and spoke impeccable English. One of the best features of staying here. The room was small, but quiet and clean and had everything one needed. Only, only issue I had was on first night and to a lesser extent latter nights when my tv would just 'cut out' for no reason, Not sure if it was a satellite issue or what but when I called down to reception the guy came right up and took care of it.... but really one doesn't go to Iceland to watch British television, but it was thee ONLY issue I had at this hotel. Great base... Ill use it next time Im there and will recommend it to all who visit... also peep the Old Icelandic restaurant a few doors down... pricey, but what isnt in that country. Treat yourself to a delicious meal , you wont regret it.

Good 6.0
The hotel was beautiful and in a great location, but we were put in a room on the ground floor that overlooked the lobby and a glass hallway, so if we wanted to open the curtains, everyone walking by or sitting in the lobby could look directly into our room. This was especially disappointing, as I thought I had paid extra for the room with a view of the water and mountains. The hotel staff was consistently rude and unhelpful when we had questions, and was even unfamiliar with their own hotel policies. When we inquired about a late checkout, which we saw was an option on their website, they scoffed at us and asked if we read that on Trip Adviser. When we showed them it was on their very own website, they told us they couldn't possibly do it, without even looking into the computer. We paid the $25 each for breakfast an hour before it ended, but half the warm food was never refilled after we arrived (even after one of the servers yelled out to no one in particular "I'm bringing more!"). Overall, it was a disappointing experience.
