Excellent Hotel for an Excellent Price
The location was excellent as there are supermarkets, shopping and dining right around the corner and you can walk to Old Town in just 15 minutes. We were surprised by the spaciousness of the room and how clean and comfortable it was. The only suggestion for improvement I have is, and maybe they just don’t have this at European hotels, but we really would have liked one of those “do not disturb” door-hangings for our room. We felt sick one day and needed to sleep during the day and didn’t want the maid to come in and disturb us. A simple phone call to the front desk did the trick but it would have been nice to have the door hanging anyway as I don’t need my room cleaned on a daily basis. Breakfast is fabulous! There is something for even the pickiest eater with different kinds of cereals, yogurt, breads, cheeses, meats, crepes, eggs and other things that Americans don’t typically eat for breakfast like salads, pickles and veg sticks. The only (minor) complaint I have about breakfast is that their apple & orange juice were not 100% juice, but that artificial, sugar-laden, flavored juice. It would be a nice upgrade to see a pitcher of 100% orange juice to accompany such an incredible breakfast spread. Upon check out at 11am, I was surprised to see a line of people checking in or registering with their passports! Luckily, the staff noticed me and let me go ahead of them so I hope all staff are mindful of this as really, that time should be reserved for quick check-outs.

Great stay!
We enjoy staying at the Merkur, the room was very clean, beds very confortable. The breakfast was well stocked, different breads, cheeses, jams, juices and others. I travel with two more friends and they shared the same opinion.

Wifi ? Air condition ? Na....
This time was very weird.. Changed room 3 times... Mini bar was not cooling and they told me its like it is... It was so hot weather and there is no air conditioning in the rooms... Thats absurd! Not posible to stay at summer time... Its really hot.. Wifi not included in the price of the room.... What???? I dont get it but next time i ll do my best to avoid that place!

OK but you can do better for the money
The hotel is OK, and that is about it. It is safe, it is generally clean, it is being renovated, and the people were very nice. It needs air conditioning for mid- and late summer stays, so be aware of that. Depending upon your booking deal, though, you could do much better, be sure to check around.
