Friend's Birthday Surprise
I went up to Brooklyn to surprise my friend for her birthday. This is one of the most Excellent hostels I've ever been to. The service is great, the staff were so welcoming and helpful. They can help you find your way around and find places to go. The accommodations were worth more than I paid for. However, it is a hostel, so you will have other people in the room with you. But you get your own shared bathroom in the room and the beds are very comfortable.

No frills - don't expect the world, it will be ok
Check-in was super easy and the attendant was very informative on how the hostel worked. I can't say much regarding the experience of sharing a room with strangers as I had a party of 3 and we got a private dormitory. That room was pretty awesome considering absolutely no frills. When we arrived, it was super hot but it was super hot out anyway. Turned on the A/C which took a few hours but eventually and not untimely worked very well. Beds were amazingly comfortable, even more so than the most high-end NYC hotels, I kid you not. Slept SO well here. The cleanliness of the room was more than adequate, and the bathroom was spotless. Also of note: everyone here seemed extremely friendly, and yes, free coffee. Free, good coffee. You would not expect this, but it is so. The only downside of this hotel would be the SOMEWHAT immediate barren area this hostel resides in. It's a short walk to the big areas, but it is surrounded by industria. In short, I'd definitely stay here again due to its proximity to the more populated areas and the overall 'come on in' vibe of the hostel. Keep in mind, it isn't a HOTEL and it's not where a HOTEL would be. If you're fine with this, you will love this place, as we did.
