Givendale Guest House, Portree
Boutique Hotel with Great Restaurant and Patio
The rooms were spacious and clean, and had a very nice Scottish old world charm. While we only stayed on night we enjoyed the outdoor patio/bar and the easy proximity to nearby restaurants. It was also a 15-20 minute walk to the old town area.

More of a Hostel than a Hotel
This is VERY MUCH a hostel-style property with the added breakfast treatment, rather than a hotel. Jurrian, the host, was a great guy and very nice, and his breakfast was lovely. There was the option of a full breakfast or a continental style, and both were homemade and great. We stayed in the converted attic room which has two beds and an en-suite bathroom and open-able skylights. The room was smallish and the beds new and quite comfortable, which is absolutely lovely for folks looking to be super busy out in Skye all day and just wanted to pass out afterward. However, the upstairs hallway was quite cold, the bathroom in our room was freezing as well, the TV in the lounge area had no signal (no functionality unless you wanted to watch a VHS or DVD) and the couches in the lounge were old and really worn out. For the simple function of a comfortable bed at night and a nice breakfast it was perfect - but for anything beyond that (TV, extra comfort or updated furnishings) was not available.

Very homey stay! Comfortable, quiet room. Had a shared family room with a nice view. Easy walk to town and lots of eating places. Up-beat town. Owner was very helpful and enjoyed talking with him. Breakfast was excellent.

The B & B needs some TLC. The room we were in was decorated in a mid-60's era which was fine, but it was looking a bit shabby - as was the rest of the place. The food left a bit to be desired - the eggs weren't cooked properly. The host was wonderful and informative. The Wi-Fi was a joke.

Loud, outdated, generally uncomfortable
First we were on our honeymoon and requested a shared bed but ended up in two separate twins. The rooms are very outdated and warm but you can't open the window because there is a sign warning of swarms of midges. Add in we had to share a bathroom (refused to use the shower so can't report on that). Probably worst of all is you can hear everything in the other rooms and all of the floors have dramatic squeaks you hear all the time, anytime anyone moves in a room or the hall. Couldn't wait to get out of there after one night. Not worth the cheaper rate than other places on would do better to search a B&B online elsewhere and find more options than this site is offering (there are plenty in the same price range with better facilities).
