Roomy, home like
Difficult to find as it's in a residential area; road in is not smooth. Lots of space for relaxing inside and out. Common kitchen which saves on food costs. Great for family and large groups.

The owner was very friendly and helpful. Made us feel at home.

We booked at Halemalu because it was the last accommodation available in the area. The owner was very nice, but the facility reminded me of camp dormitories, with painted plywood floors, and outdated and mismatched furniture.

Spacious though a bit out of the way
The hotel is a bit out of the way (not in a main town, up a steep hill and a gravel road), but it serves as a decent base for exploring both North Kona and South Kona. The suite was huge, with two bedrooms, a bathroom, a large living space, and a lanai. You need to arrange your arrival time in advance to make sure someone is there to check you in, but Eric and Sue were very accommodating of our schedule. One other thing to note: we could hear the roosters crowing at all hours, not just in the morning. Overall, it was a fine place to spend the night.
