Fabulous 8.8 From 470 reviews

Very Good 8.0
Works very well for a business trip
Spend two nights at Scandic Stavanger City. Bed is fine, breakfast is nice and with a good variety of food choices - bread is very good. Only irritating detail was the aircon, that apparently is impossible to swicht off in the room (at least I didn't succeed). Location is very good - with walking distance to the city centre, habour and Oil Museum.

Poor 2.0
No restaurant, no staff, no room
When we arrived I was amazed to be told at 2030 at night that our room was not yet available and we would have to make do with a much smaller room and a double room rather than a twin room. Vouchers to the value of 400NKr were offered in recompense to use in the restaurant but only one problem - the restaurant was closed for a summer break! Can you believe it. There was a very limited menu available in the bar but seemingly only 1 member of staff who had to keep running backwards and forwards between the bar and the kitchen, as well as acting as waiter. The food was OK but nothing to write home about. There was also only 1 receptionist on duty and she was also great and helpful but severely harassed by the number of guests wanting attention. They had promised us the room we'd booked for the next day but again this was not available until late afternoon. The new room was much better and bigger but the air conditioning didn't seem to work - you turned it down and about a minute later it reverted to 23C. Breakfast was good, plentiful and varied. There was free wifi but very limited in bandwidth in the room although there were no connection problems in the lobby. The website mentions parking but this is in fact extremely limited and the hotel has only 6 places. I would have liked to rate higher but any hotel which cannot guarantee the room which has been booked AND paid for does not in my estimation deserve higher despite any reparations they make afterwards.

Exceptional 10.0
Fantastic price, location, everything was ideal. It's perfectly located by the ferry terminal, and the airport bus stopped pretty much right outside so easy peasy to find (30 mins from airport on bus, cost 200nok return per person) Friendly staff on check in, maps printed out for the city as well as ferry timetables and bus timetables which came in handy. Everything within walking distance as the city is quite small but beautiful. Room was great, clean, modern - the shower was great and loved the heated floor made a big difference after showering so no soaking floor. Plenty of room for your things with a sofa, desk and seat by the door. Air con, tv, hairdryer all in the room as well as an iron and ironing board. Loved the touch of free hot drinks, as the city is SO expensive we really appreciated this. Same with breakfast we were so pleased this was included to save us money during the day. Great selection of hot/ cold foods and all fresh. Bacon, eggs, beans just like english breakfast and tasted great unlike other countries attempts! Lovely fruit each day, yoghurts, juices, cereals, pastries and hot drinks. Also had water on tap which we used throughout the day to fill out bottles. Lovely dining area, bar area and reception - all super clean and modern. All in all simply can't fault this place it was brilliant and if we ever return we would definitely come back here.

Wonderful hotel and staff in Stavanger!
Our stay at Scandic Stavanger City was amazing!! I cannot express enough how wonderful the hotel staff was. So friendly, helpful, and hospitible! We only stayed one night before a hike to Pulpit Rock, but we wished we had stayed longer. The room was very comfortable and pretty large compared to the other hotels we stayed in in Norway, and the location was very good as well. Breakfast was delicious and the lobby was extremely comfortable. We checked out early for the hike, but our train to Oslo wasn't until 10 PM. The hotel staff let us store our bags all day, change when we returned from the hike, and relax in the lobby after an extremely rainy and cold day in the fjords. Marthe (I believe was her name - we stayed on Halloween and she was dressed up as Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany's!) even brought us muffins and coffee to help us warm up. Her level of hospitality really made our day and we will recommend this hotel to anyone considering a stay in Stavanger! We also loved the Halloween decorations and candy - such a fun touch!

close to everything yet far enough for quiet
the whole stay was a trouble-free experience. parking the car under the building was easy and relatively inexpensive. the reception area is well staffed with attentive people who always seem to be smiling and there are free chocolates and croissants to munch on if you need to wait (or just be passing). The bar area was great and the bartender was very attentive and efficient, remembering our orders from the previous night and the food in the bar is excellent. the breakfast buffet is top notch too, great range. it's easy to walk into town from this location. the room was a little small even though we had one of the bigger ones (with 3 of us) and no tea/coffee facilities in the room. Wardrobe space is almost non-existent. we noticed that the room door didn't want to lock, or we had trouble making it lock when we wanted to leave the room. You expect the door to lock behind you and need a key to get back in, but we could open it without the key. Eventually it locks or we got it to lock, but it always pays to check.
