Lovely and comfortable and a bit different
Top place, a bit different but very nice. Only problem was that the hot water tap in the bathroom was very slow.

Private Lodge
We booked the lodge at Salmesbury hall as a mid-stop point on way to Manchester. Within the hall grounds, beside a busy road but didn't hear it. As it is by the entrance, if it was tourist season I would be wary of wandering tourists peeking in the windows as it does look like part of the attraction. Nice little cottage style, good price of £100 for 2 people for the size. Condition wise, one of the door frames was a bit warped and place could do with more of a clean. 2 living rooms, large bathroom with roll top bath & walk in shower (although water went cold on shower the next morning). Upon arrival it is a case of picking up the key from staff in the hall then left to own devices, so ideal if you want privacy to relax (which I did). Self-catering, but places nearby to eat. Entertainment wise, a wander around the hall (40 yards or so from the lodge) and grounds can keep you amused for a couple of hours, as can the café in the grounds. Overall, I would book again if I was in the area. I can imagine this being a big draw to English history buffs or ghost hunters (apparently the hall is haunted).
