Motel One Frankfurt-Messe, Frankfurt

Very small rooms, sub-par location
The rooms were really small. We are fairly light travelers and used to small spaces, but this was quite small. We've stayed in more spacious rooms in Japan, for goodness' sake. The windows were also small and the views were not good (the industrial parts of other nearby hotels). There was also no phone in the room, so they expect you to use your cell phone to call the front desk, which is not so convenient if you're an international traveler and have to pay for minutes. I don't understand how such a sub-par hotel room in an out-of-the-way part of a not-so-glamorous city was this pricey; I know Frankfurt hosts a lot of big conventions, but we weren't there during a convention time, so that wasn't it. I suppose it's close enough to the central train station that you could walk (it's about 15-20 minutes), but it's in a new sort of industrial hotel area that is weird and not that nice, so I was just at a loss as to what we were paying for. It was clean and the staff was friendly, but overall, we were very underwhelmed.

Great value & location
Right next Skyline Plaza shopping mall. Swift walk from Frankfurt Hauptbahnhof. If you got sneakers and about 2 miles in your tank, you walk to Fressgass and Zeil from here. Parking is very convenient in the hotel garage. Lobby and room were very clean. Not sure about the pay-as-you-go policy. I would rather just pay once for all the accumulated charges. The shower was nice but the bathroom door closes automatically which traps the heat and moisture. After the first shower and being away for awhile after, the shower had a moldy smell. Disappeared after letting in some fresh air. Overall a great value for the cost of 69 Euro/night.
