Masaya Hostel Santa Marta, Santa Marta
Our stay at Masaya completely exceeded our expectations, in nearly every way. I haven't stayed at many hostels, but I've stayed at a few over the years and this one was one of the nicest. The staff were incredibly friendly, super knowledgeable about the area, made great recommendations, and were very welcoming the entire time. We had a private room with a king bed and a bunk bed, and it was perfect for 3 people. The A/C was great, rooms were clean and comfortable, and there was even a tour booking agency in the hostel so you could book tours right from there. One tip I wish we had known was how much there is to do near Santa Marta - there were many multi-day excursions that looked really cool that we unfortunately didn't have time to do. The pools were also a nice additional touch. The hostel is on a busy street by day, but those streets during the week are mostly vacant until you reach the busier streets. We had no major issues, but I would recommend keeping your eyes and ears open if walking home past 10pm on weeknights or just taking a cab back. Masaya was a gem with fantastic prices and accommodations - I would definitely recommend staying here and asking them about the tours they offer beforehand.

The check in too late, 3 pm and the check out too early, 11 am. Only 20 hours day

Beautiful oasis in Santa Marta
Probably one of the most architecturally beautiful hostels we've stayed in anywhere. Room comfortable, ac a plus. The only thing they could add are the fold up canvas tables to put your bags. And another place for a towel in the bathroom. Service slack at reception. And though our room was ready when we arrived they wouldn't let us check in until 3:00pm. Breakfast is underwhelming and the guy was downright rude. Even though my husband told him we had a private room he was rationing out the coffee. And you know that cost nothing. The person at the travel desk was very helpful. If you don't care about service, this is a great place to stay.

Ok but could be better...
The staff was nice and the place was fun with the pool up on the top floor and the simple bar open after 5pm (only beers and basic drinks). There is no elevator and you have to carry your own bags. My room was big but dark, no windows. There was also a large humidity spot on the ceiling. I only stayed one night because they had no water when I woke up and couldn't take a shower or get a cup of coffee. Nobody had a clue as to what the problem was or when it was going to get fixed. So I moved. Good AC. The bartender could be more people oriented, had to ask for a beer like 5 times! And still gave me a snarky response once I walked up to the bar. No tip for him!

A great stay in Santa Marta
This is part hostel and part hotel. I was given a superior room on the ground floor. The room was clean and a pool was right outside our door. We did not hear any noise. The second pool is on the room top. Great views and nice vibe. Lots of young friendly travelers from all over the world. They have happy hour specials and the bartender works hard to please everyone. The breakfast staff, hotel staff and front desk are very friendly and helpful. The restaurant area is a 3 blocks walking. I felt safe at night.
