I had an interview nearby which made location key. Difficult to find parking, sharing bathroom wasn't ideal but given price and location it was great for the one night.

Value for money in SF, great location
I stayed at the Casa Loma hotel for only 1 night, as i came to SF to see a concert. I arrived to the hotel a bit before check in time and the room was already ready for me. The hotel location was great for me, very close to the civic center. They are plenty of restaurants, bars and cafes nearby, only few minutes walk. Public transportation is also very accessible fro the hotel as they are various lines nearby that can take you all over. The hotel staff were very nice and helpful, ready to assist at anytime. They are free maps at the hotel and the staff give you recommendations and explain how to arrive where you need. There is also a free cappuccino machine at the lobby free of charge. The free wifi was very good and worked well both in the room and at the lobby. The facility itself is basic and a bit outdated, you basically get what you paid for. Considering the hotel is in SF and the location, i think the rate is reasonable and good value for money (though if it was somewhere else i would think it is a bit expensive for what you get). Don't expect to get a room with a view. I heard from the hotel staff that the rooms facing the street are a bit noisy so they offer free ear-plugs (though i can't say personally as i wasn't in these rooms). The couches at the lobby are very uncomfortable and are not intended for long sitting as you can feel each spring. Overall good experience if you want something basic (not 5 star) with good location and not expensive.

Two words: Communal Bathrooms
How is no one else talking about this in the reviews? I was disappointed to learn that the only bathrooms were communal. And they weren't separated by men and women. All men and women on the floor had to share the SAME bathrooms. It would be one thing if they were properly cleaned, but they weren't. There was mold and mildew growing in between the tiles in the shower and a wet, sloppy shower mat was left all day and night and not switched out. A shower like this should be cleaned several times per day. Thankfully I only had to shower in it once. The people that work there were nice enough and I could tell it was a family-run business. The bed was okay and the location was great, but it was not worth the money, in my opinion. I've stayed in hostels nicer and cleaner than this for less money who at least have communal bathrooms separated by gender. I would not recommend staying here at all.

Service was great. Shared bathrooms are kind of tiny and slightly run down.
