Surprisingly pleasant
On first arrival at the hotel, we were a little concerned about the area - lots of graffiti on the walls, bars, etc. But after staying there for 2 nights, we were fine with it. Just a very local area that, by the way, is near Moulin Rouge and other "clubs". The room was fine for the 3 of us. Nothing to write home about, but pleasant. The front desk clerks were very helpful. They offered to keep our bags when we checked out, and worked with us on our very late arrival.

BEDBUGS
My first night here I had been awake more than 24 hours for travel and crashed hard. Over the first full day I developed angry itchy red welts all over my body. The owner told me he'd never had a problem with bedbugs so I hoped it was something else. But no! I woke up at 4am from itching just now 4am) and when I flipped on the light I could see them all over the bed. I'm so grossed out right now and I don't know what to do. Running out into the streets of Pigalle at 4:30 seems unsafe but how can I stay in this room?

Good Basic Hotel in Great Location
I can recommend Grand Hotel Clermont to anyone seeking a small, clean, basic room in a great area of Paris, Montmartre. This is a credible budget option for the traveler not planning to spend a lot of time in the room. There is no 24-hour concierge service, but when the manager is in, he is cheerful, responsive, courteous, and helpful. He even hauled one of our heavy bags up 3 flights of the narrow spiral staircase to our room. On the ground floor there is an authentic Parisian bar with a mixture of hipsters, millenials, and blue collar Parisian folks that I found great fun. Sheets and bedding were changed daily, and the room was very clean thanks to the diligent maid. I would definitely consider staying there again, and fell in love with the Montmartre neighborhood: shops, bistros, patisseries, cheese shops, wine shops -- even a laundromat is nearby. The "Blanche" metro stop is less than a 5 minute walk down the hill, and it connects you to anywhere in Paris. If you're in need of an American coffee fix, the Starbucks is right across the street from the metro station, and also the famous Moulin Rouge.
