Generally positive, with notable drawbacks
I paid to upgrade my rooms because the first room I was given (a standard King room) was tiny and claustrophobic. The bigger room at a higher price was very nice and comfortable - I can't really recommend the hotel unless you pay for a premium room. Overall, this is not quite the luxury hotel it aspires to be. The staff doesn't seem to have worked out all the kinks with check-in, so although the staff is extremely nice, lots of processes are slow and backed up. The lobby had a massive water leak the day after I arrived, with water pouring from the ceiling, so the rest rooms and bar area where closed for several days with construction teams working on it. There was no offer of compensation for this problem/inconvenience. The property overall shows many signs of wear (some furniture in the common areas and rooms is scratched/delaminated, and many carpets and surfaces were stained). Despite these issues, the room I got was fairly priced and comfortable, the staff is really friendly, and the happy hour and free breakfast make this a good deal. Also, the location really can't be beat.

A very good place with a very odious hidden fee
A good place and a good stay BUT-the $50/day/person "resort fee" is a rip-off. Except for breakfast, the list of things you "get" for this extra $100/day (double occupancy) are things that any decent hotel should provide free! (Gym use, wifi, etc) More hotels are adding this mandatory "resort fee" and is really just a disingenuous attempt to show a lower price for the room when, in fact, the room price is really $100 or so a day more. West House is an attractive place and should rise above this deceptive practice.

Favorite Midtown Hotel
Been staying here for years as well as all over NY. This is my favorite hotel. Ashley in particular always remembers my name. Raphael is always awesome on the bar and it's easy to get to wherever we need to go in the city. The 23rd floor is the best part, with a place to hang out during the day and get excellent cappuccino as well as breakfast and apps and drinks in the evening's Hour of Indulgence. Some of the baths are smaller, but as an ex New Yorker, I expect that. Always comfy and classy.

Enjoyable stay with great location!
Our 2nd time staying here, this time for the New Years experience. Great location and walking distance to Times Square, Central Park, shopping & restaurants. Room is ample sized although bathroom was small but very clean. Bed was a bit too firm for me and the room was very hot even though heat was turned down. Hour of Indulgence offerings in the Terrace were nice, expensive fee so best to take advantage.

Nice Hotel but Shower Leaked Everywhere
I would have given this hotel 5 stars all across the board. The reason I did not is because our room had a shower issue- in which the shower leaked water throughout the entire bathroom floor. This is a major hazard, which almost resulted in my husband falling and hitting his head. We complained to the front desk (The initial young lady was very concerned and helpful), however; the issue was never resolved. A staff member did come in to caulk around the shower, but the water leakage continued... for 3 days! When checking out around 5 am, we told a lady at the from desk who appeared to not care one bit about our concern. To repeat myself (and especially for a 5 star hotel), this is a major lawsuit/ hazard just waiting to happen. I hope the hotel is proactive and fixes this immediately to prevent harm or an unnecessary accident to hotel guest. Other than that, the hotel and happy hour was amazing. Our room was a bit dusty, but beautiful none the less.
