8/10 Very Good

Centrally located family-run ryokan
Kagihei is a family-run ryokan that's quite centrally located on a quiet street in the main shopping district of Kyoto. It's easily walkable to Shijo and Gion and the Imperial Palace, and is two blocks from Nishikiji Market. The building is new, but the room interiors are traditional style. There is one stack of rooms that is very dark, so if you are planning to stay inside don't get those rooms. (The other 4 stacks seem fine.) The breakfast is excellent and the sento baths are small but nice. There's not much of a garden. The ryokan closes at 11pm, so it's not a good place if you want to stay out late.

First time in Kyoto!
Amazing little Ryokan in Downtown Kyoto! A stones throw from the Nishiki Market. The owners (husband and wife) are incredibly nice and their breakfast is amazing! The rooms are very comfortable and the location is great. Super close to subway and the main high end street with designer shopping, along with tons of restaurants and malls. Such a great place to stay if you want to experience a low key no frills Ryokan. Will definitely recommend to family and friends. Thank you!
