Great hostel with everything we needed ok
Our group of four stayed at this hostel for 5 nights in a private room. Everything was clean and we didn't have any issues. We were emailed the entrance codes a few days ahead of time and they worked smoothly. I was worried about arriving too early to check in, so I emailed them asking about it. They assured me that we would be able to store our luggage if needed, but most likely, our room would be ready before we arrived, and it was. Towels and sheets were provided and everything was clean. There was only one bathroom and shower for our part of the hostel (about five rooms or so), but there was never any wait for them. The location is safe and conveniently close to Hallgrimskirkja. The kitchenette was more of a place to store and reheat snacks and leftover meals rather than for cooking full meals, but that wasn't a problem for us. There weren't laundry facilities, but there was a sign saying we could ask the cleaning lady for laundry services, which was something like 1000ISK for 1-5kg and 2000ISK for 6-10kg. Overall, it was a good place to stay and we would stay here again next time!

It was the perfect place before catching our next flight

It was disappointing that the water smelled and tasted so horrible in a country that prides itself on the quality of its tap water. If not for a rowdy crew of youngsters that stayed near us, it would have been perfect but after one of the young men approached me and my young son to join them in their room, we opted out to get a new hotel rather than stay another night.

Save Money For A Few Days At Generator
This was my first stay at a Youth Hostel. I had some apprehension about it, but things actually turned out alright. If you don't mind sharing a dorm-style room with a few young folks (and they WERE considerate). It has its own parking lot in case you rent a car. It has cooking facilities which were not too untidy. They have a pretty good System down. I would stay here again, but only for 2-3 days. Other hotels in Reykjavik are just too expensive!

Great affordable self-serve option near downtown
Everything here is self-serve and although I occasionally saw a member of the cleaning staff going about their work during the day, there is no front desk staff or other services. This was not an issue for me at all though, just something to note. The facilities are very clean, modern, and comfortable. Free wifi is available as well as several public computers in the common area. The location is good - very close to Hallgrímskirkja Church and the main downtown area containing the majority of shops, restaurants, and pubs/bars/nightlife. Be sure when you book to check your email for the access codes: you'll need the outdoor code AND the code to your room to get in when you arrive. If you don't receive the Email, be sure to contact them ahead of time and obtain these before your trip or else it will be difficult to get in. You don't want to be stuck outside in winter at 6am trying to figure out how to get in, especially since there is no front desk or staff on hand... just an FYI! My only complaint is that my bed was right next to the radiator and I was actually too hot! But, you can Email them to change beds I think although I never bothered to try. Other than that, this place was perfect for me as a solo traveller and very affordable. I didn't mind the shared room (there was only 2 other people in the room at the most during my trip although there were a total of 8 bunks and they were very nice, no issues there). The shared showers/toilets were also very clean.
