Gem in the rough
The hostel was located in a good quiet spot, a couple blocks off the main touristy area. I'm assuming it was kind of a new hostel, the reception wasn't staffed all the time, just a phone to call somebody when you arrived or needed something, things were kind of in a stage of repair, not your typical Scandinavian spotlessness, but otherwise super cheep, super quiet, right next door to the Sundhöllin thermal baths and the staff were real nice, i'd stay there again.

The reception person was very rude two times with me. The rooms were fine.

Avoid this place if you don't have a cellphone.
I had an AWFUL experience at the B47 Hostel and can't recommend enough for people to avoid this place. The hostel is SUPPOSE to email and text you all the information for your room and door code as there is no reception and no one works there to help you. I however did NOT receive an email with any of my information. Without the door code or room you are staying/room code you can't get in. They left a phone number outside the hostel to call if you needed help. Only a phone number as they don't check there email. I did not have cell reception while in Iceland so it was not like I could easily call them. I had to go online and use a free international calling app to call the place to get my room info and door code. Finally got a hold of someone and they gave me my room number and front door code. Didn't realize they didnt give me the door code to my room as that was different. Tried calling again but never got an answer the two days I was there. I was stuck only being able to enter and leave when someone else was in the room which was really problematic if I wanted to go to the bathroom at night or take a shower. Possibly the worst hostel experience I have ever had in any country. The rooms were nice and clean but the whole being able to get into my room was a nightmare I dont wish on any traveler.

An ok place in Reykjavik
You get an email a few days before you stay with your access code to the room. There is basically no real staff that interacts with you -- you show up, your bed is ready, and you sleep on it until you leave. No check in, no check out. Kitchen was pretty good. An interesting mix of people stayed here. Nobody is really social, they're all just there for a day or 2 to see Golden Circle or transient as they catch a bus or car to drive around Iceland. Maybe Reykjavik is just super expensive, but it cost like $40 a night and I just felt that was incredibly steep given the limited staff, limited facilities, how many beds were packed in there, and comparing to other major cities I stay in throughout Europe for like $10-$15 for similar rooms. The only big plus is you're smack dab in the city center. Like literally the place looks out onto Hallgrímskirkja.
