Good 7.2

  • Good place to stay for visiting National Trust Cragside. Breakfast was excellent.
  • Noisy radiators disturbed us all night. I bled the radiators myself without much success.…

Disappointed! Terrible service
On arrival we were embarrassed in front of a bar full of people due to a mix up over pre-payment of the room. We had already paid online, the barmaid said we hadn't. She later confirmed that we HAD paid, but did not apologise for their mistake. The sofas in the cottage suite were not the ones in the pic, they were badly stained & uncomfortable. Wifi does not work in the room! Outside the suite, the weeds were really high & attracting wasps, which came into our room. The garden wasn't the manicured garden in the picture! We ate there that night, choosing to eat in the garden - so we went to the bar to order (my partner had his wallet out ready to pay) and had the words 'you'll have to pay NOW if you want to eat outside' barked at us by a very unfriendly blonde lady - again, in front of a busy bar! We both ordered their 'specially selected' burger - which actually tasted of earth & was extremely gristly. We were ravenous but actually had to leave it, I've never tasted anything so bad. It was so bad it put us off eating there again so we didn't have the breakfast on either morning despite it being included. Not once did anyone say hello or goodbye. We stay away a lot in Northumberland so we have a good idea on what represents value for money and I have to say I've never ever been treated so badly. It was so bad we just stayed out as much as we could. The only saving grace was the location & the comfy bed

Good short stay
Stayed in the Garden Room which had a large living area / kitchenette. Bedroom was short on storage but comfortable bed. Despite being in the garden of a busy pub, we weren't disturbed by noise. Good breakfast. And the evening meal we had was very good. Would happily stay again if in the neighbourhood.
