About The Red Boat, Stockholm

Hotel and hostel on 2 ships, 10 minutes from Gamla Stan

Set in Södermalm

The Red Boat hotel and hostel is moored in Södermalm, a hip neighborhood with lots of quirky shops, cafés, and nightlife. It's 10 minutes' walk to the nearest T-bana stop, Slussen, which is 2 stops from the city center, Central Station, and Arlanda Express trains to the airport.

20 minutes to Fjällgatan

Cliff-top Fjällgatan, 20 minutes' walk, has great city views and 18th-century wooden houses, as well as good coffee at Kaffestuga. The narrow streets of Gamla Stan invite you to explore, or you can drop into the Royal Palace, open to the public and home to 5 museums.

Ship-shape breakfast

The free buffet breakfast, served among the nautical paraphernalia of the dining room, is the perfect way to get your day underway - there's free WiFi here to help you plan your day. Kicking back in a deckchair on the bow is a great way to take in the water views.

Hotel and hostel cabins

The nautical-themed cabins come in 2 categories - compact hostel rooms and dorms for up to 10 on the "Mälaren" and roomier hotel quarters on the "Ran af Stockholm." Hotel rooms have private bathrooms and TVs, while the shared bathrooms are in the corridor close to the dorms.

Nice place for the price, worth it
Nice experience with the life on the boat. Quiet, comfortable bed, may need update/improvement maintenance but we had a great time for the price paid. Plan on having towels with you or you will have to rent one on the boat to shower 20 sek per towel. A hostel room but not a hostel life, no kitchen, no fridge etc Tips: when arriving in central station and don’t wont to walk pretty long, don’t catch the bus or metro by a sl ticket and use the ferry it is a short walk from central and will get you right next to the boat. From 7am till 7pm only though. From airport Arlanda get the bus Flygbussarna ticket from your phone Sek 99 or at the machine 119 and most of the time American credit card doesn’t work at the machine.

Too tight
The room had bunk beds and I had recently injured my back and my wife could not climb into it so we had to sleep in the lower bunk which was very small. The staff was great and the location was very convenient.

Quiet and close to everything
I wanted a inexpensive stay while traveling through Stockholm in April and booked a single. I got a room (#18) on the first deck at the bow on the white boat behind the Red Boat. When I showed up to the hostel, the rooms weren't open to check into yet so I waited in the lobby/eating area, using the wifi available. My room wasn't large and the bed was a bit harder than I would care for. If the sleeping mat were thicker, it would be a lot more comfortable but I was so tired at the end of every day that it was fine. My only problem with the bed was I'm too tall at 6'2" to fully extend my legs while sleeping. The communal showers were fine and I never had to wait to use them. Water pressure was good and the water heated quickly. The toilets were very cramped but I never had to wait to use them either. There was a separate woman only toilet/shower room. I ate dinner one night (spaghetti bolognese) in the Red Boat and it was decent. Not horrible but not great. The price was right for it. The baggage storage room is outside on the sidewalk. You need to get the key from the front desk. I put my bag in the room after checking out to go to church on Easter morning. I felt that my things were adequately protected. If I were traveling through Stockholm again and needed a quiet and cheap place to stay close to the center of town, I'd definitely highly consider the Red Boat again.
