City Respite
Wellington hosts a lot of hustle and bustle; the Goumet Stay is a good place to take it all in, for a reasonable price. Located on a small side-street, there are only 2 parking spaces available for guests. Request them early, if you need one. Downtown with shops and restaurants within walking distance. A walk to the top of Mount Victoria (about 90 minutes each way) is a must. Staff at Gourmet Stay provided great service, offered suggestions for restaurants and activities, and helped us with that needed laundry chore. A great city visit before the Interislander Ferry to the South Island.

Ok hotel, but room was small and loud
Hotel location was good for walking around the city. Parking was difficult as apparently you have to request parking ahead of time but this was not communicated to us and their reserved spaces were full by the time I asked (a day or two prior to check in). Room was fine but small - we booked the king studio. The deck was as big as the room. My major complaint is the hotel is LOUD. We were on the third floor and the noise of slamming doors and people pounding up and down stairs late at night and early morning didn’t make for great sleep. Reminded me of a hostel in that way. We had to leave early for a ferry in the morning so couldn’t get breakfast. It was fine for a night but I wouldn’t come back.

Very pleasant and enjoyable stay
Overall this is a really nice place. The staff are very friendly and accommodating. The location is good (< 5 mins to Cuba St, < 10 mins to Courtenay Pl, < 15 mins to Te Papa, grocery stores two blocks away). My room was very spacious, but that's because I paid for a "King Studio" (it even had a mini-kitchen and fridge). The WiFi quality was excellent. They have a laundry facility you can use (for a modest fee). What could be better? The breakfast is decent but not extravagant (the name "Gourmet" is a bit misleading, though the hotel's own web page says it's named for the Cuba St area, not for what the hotel offers). The room was a mix of really nice and pretty old: some parts felt boutique, others felt like they needed repair. The creepers around the room badly need cropping; every time you opened and closed the door, you sheared off leaves that came in with you. Little details like that made it sub-perfect.

Great spot!
This place was so nice! The room was discuss, the bed comfortable, and the bathroom clean. Staff was friendly and welcoming. Breakfast is pretty simple, but appreciated.
