GREAT STAFF....TERRIABLE HOTEL
The staff at this hotel were very friendly, responsive and accommodating; however, the hotel overall is NOT suitable for any traveler who enjoys and seeks out a clean and comfortable hotel free of dust, dirt, moldy smells, clean linens and a lot of questionable quest during late night hours. I was in Durban for a festival and when locals asked were I was staying and I told them The Albany a few people on different occasions jokingly said that was like staying at a brothel. Please DO NOT stay at this hotel if you are traveling and want a safe secure and relaxing stay. I wont be visiting again. The hotel staff were very pleasant though. So it was not all bad.

Nice bargan option in downtown Durban.
We chose the Albany due to its economical price and location relative to Durban's ICC. The hotel room was clean, recently updated, with basic amenities--kettle, flat screen (limited TV channels--no CNN, BBC or Al Jezera). The breakfast buffet offered a good selection. Walls are extremely thin; we heard even the quietest conversations in the adjoining room. Lobby and one elevator was under construction. Fortunately we were on the third floor, leaving the stairs as a viable option to the crowded, slow single elevator. The hotel staff was helpful and accommodating. I do not recommend walking from the hotel at night--definitely not a good area after dark. Several attempted robberies were reported among attendees at our conference at the ICC, and conference participants were warned multiple times to not walk back to hotels after dark. If you are in Durban for the beach seek another hotel option. If you are in town for a conference at the ICC, the Albany is a good economical option.

semi-clean hotel
We were made to wait in reception, not enough room in the rooms and our room phone was not working had to go up and down the elevator if we needed something and mind you we were in the 9th floor.

Nice rooms but improve reception
Stay was good but 3rd floor foya dirty with litter of paper thrown from other floors. Parking arrangement bad. Hotel full then you on your own look for public parking at night. No compassion.

Not what I saw on the pictures. Room was too small. Bathroom was nothing like on the pictures and the area was too busy.
