nephew's wedding
We were only there for a quick stay (wedding). Everything was clean, staff was great, a little dated but clean. If I was in the area and needed a place I would not hesitate to stay again.

Poor 2.0
Unacceptable
Upon arrival at the hotel which appeared empty except for two derelict inoperable rusted, flat tired vehicles, and the operators vehicle parked near the reception area. The entry walkway was littered with a dirty rag, the entry was empty except for a barking small dog and it was cluttered and dark and there was an overpowering odor of air freshener. When a man finally showed up his demeanor was odd and he was followed by an equally odd woman when I questioned the outside conditions and asked to see the room she said you have to pay anyway which I questioned given the conditions. The room they showed me appeared tidy in a long empty way, musty, dusty, untouched, but the windows were all wide open and the air freshener odor was overwhelming. The open windows were needed but it was a first floor room so completely insecure with the windows open. I chose not to stay and am disputing paying for such an unsatisfactory lodging.

Spent a wonderful week exploring mid-coast Maine from this friendly and comfortable location in the middle of it all. Frank and Susanne made us feel like part of the family in the beautiful accommodations.

Our Best Lodging Experience
My wife and I have visited a fair number of places of lodging over the years. All the places were good with some better than others, however this place, The Black Horse Inn, was exceptionally well in all respects. The most notable of all was the excellent staff and the way they treated their guests with warmth and concern for their comfort. Unlike the big name chain lodges who I feel treat their lodgers similar to the way one might expect to be greeted and treated at a local Mac Donalds when ordering dinner. In just a few days stay I got to know Frank, I call him "Frankie" who seemed to run the facility, quite well. Well enough that my lovely wife and I would consider him a friend. Our stay at the Black Horse was indeed an experience of which we desire to repeat again next year during our stay in Maine. We give the Black Horse Inn and the staff a FIVE STAR rating plus.
