We arrived while it was chilly and rainy, and the second we walked through the door, the atmosphere was welcoming and warm. We were greeted instantly by Cate, given a small tour, and guided up to our room. Cate was gracious, kind, and made sure we had everything we needed–including our privacy. The room was gorgeous. We were in the Lilac Hedge Room, which is even better looking in person than on the website. The evening we stayed was romantic, cozy, and exactly what I was looking for. Breakfast the next morning was delicious, and hand cooked by Cate and Tom. The other visitors were friendly and gracious, and I cannot wait for a chance to return here. Plus, there are great hiking trails nearby! Definitely visit in the Spring or Fall for the views, but it's great year round!

Because of the good reviews I chose this bed and breakfast. If lumpy beds with granny-thrift shop sale bedding, towels and decor are your thing, by all means pay the ridiculous rate for this room.

Bed and Breakfast
Checked out rooms, dining area, kitchen, and then cancelled reservation. Though owner said it was only 5 years old, it was an extremely old large former estate and not much was done to it. It was falling apart. Mold, old furniture, lots of concrete and tile on floors and walls; bathrooms were extremely downgraded; beds did not look comfortable or welcoming. Room we were given had no windows. Kitchen was not very organized or clean; lots of clutter; dining room reminded me of the cafeteria in an old mental institution-- very sparse and plain. Again, dark and not very welcoming. Also, the accommodations were well over priced.

Best Value and Breakfast
I loved this place! I had business in Andover and happened upon Tamaracks Country Villa in my search for a place to spend one night. I awoke early enought to spend time talking with Cate. she and her husband have taken the remnants of what once was the Colby Mansion. Neglected for decades, they've transformed the concrete bones of this early 20th Century home into a warm and charming B&B that words cant describe. Owner and host Cate made sure that I was comfortable and sent me off the next morning with a breakfast to remember (im still trying to replicate the omelette she prepared for me). My only regret is that I didn't have more time to explore the grounds and surrounding area. I highly recommend this B&B.
