The Waggon & Horses, Congleton
Very Good8.0
Cosy pub in the Cheshire countryside
We received a warm welcome when we arrived at the Waggon and Horses and were shown where the room was. It was a lovely location (see photo) with some great views over open countryside. The room itself was spacious, clean and with a modern bathroom. Tea and coffee were provided but basic, and the Wi-fi worked well. The bath towels were quite small, and may have been a struggle if we were large visitors. The windows were single glazed, so road noice was evident, particularly in the morning when awoken at 5.50 am. We ate in the pub and the food was OK with a reasonable selection. Chose a ‘special of the day’ but was disappointed that the gravy had a skin and the chips were quite stodgy, as if they had been microwaved; Tasted fine though. We were woken at about 11.50 through the thin walls as other guests arrived back, somewhat noisily - that might just have been bad luck. The curtains were good quality black outs which kept the sun out first thing in the morning. We left before breakfast, so cannot comment on that. Beds were comfortable and slept well until the county morning rush. Would probably stay again if in the area.

Perfect location, but....
We had two rooms for two nights as we were attending a wedding locally. The Waggon and Horses was ideally located for the venue. Our room was very hot on the first night, whilst my daughter's room was very cold - the heater hadn't been turned on. Lots of cobwebs around our room, and a pretty hard bed which didn't lend itself to a great nights sleep. Breakfast was basic, but okay. Overall, it was ok, but perfect location for the wedding we attended

Business trip
Must admit I was a bit disappointed - the bed was not very comfortable and the food was not very good. Wont be using it again although I will be in the area often.

Friendly comfortable stay.
Excellent breakfast and comfortable room. Nothing was too much trouble and we were made to feel very welcome. The only let down was the shower as the head wouldn't stay up so the wall got more of the shower than me.
