Good for couples with some activities
The sala rattanakosin, is a unique boutique hotel in an up and coming area of Thailand. Not a lot of bars or restaurants, but lots of tourist activities around. There are temples across the street and across the water. The condition of the hotel was a bit shaby, but I guess that is sort of the character of the area. I wouldn't of had a problem with it, if we didn't get a room (initially) with paint pealing off the walls. I also felt that the design of the rooms could be better. For example, I'm not sure if you can qualify it as a balcony, but they had a door that gave you access to what seem to be a balcony with no walls. Making it a bit dangerous, especially if there is a family using the room. The bathroom doesn't have a lock, which I would have, but thats just my preference. Also, since I was moved to a different room I've noticed different stereos. One that was relevant, which had an iphone doc, the other with a cd player??? Anyways, it was actually a very pleasant stay, however I would hope some changes would be made.

Excellent staff and great location for sightseeing
The only downside to the hotel is that it’s at the back of an alley that’s used as an unloading area for stores/restaurants. I never heard them unloading, but you have to dodge around trucks/trolleys/workers going to/from the hotel. With the exception of that, everything about the hotel was great. The staff spoke good English and were helpful, the breakfast overlooking the river was great (I had the chicken and rice that came with various breads and jams to try), the bed was comfortable, and staff even left various infused waters in the rooms to try that were all good. Hotel was also located right next to a market, right across the street from Wat Pho, and right next to a Tuk Tuk hub, so getting anywhere in the city for really cheap was a breeze.

Sala Rattanakosin is awful
This place is horrible. It is located at the end of a dirty alley, around working warehouses with men moving heavy boxes all day long. The alley smelt of sweat and cat urine. There is no elevator and we had to walk up a staircase filled with extra chairs, etc. The room was filled with run down and heavily stained furniture. We booked for 3 nights, paid for 2 nights but left the second day. The service staff, with the exception of one young lady, was rude and had bad attitude. The doorman tried to scam us by telling the taxi to charge 200 Baht for a 80 Baht ride. The only positive of this hotel is the view of and closeness to the temples and the grand palace. There is no way that this hotel qualifies as a 4-star hotel.

Worth coming here for the view alone!!!!!!
You have to come to this hotel for the view from the roof top bar at night, let alone the standard of the food. the bar opens at 1600 but wait until dark for your first visit. The view across the river to the illuminated Temple on the far bank, then turn through 360 degrees and look at the other sites also illuminated, then sit and have a cocktail watching the party boats, river taxis, rats tail boats and huge tug and barge combinations float (or speed) by in warm, balmy temperatures, what is there not to love? Couple that with the quality of the bar food and the restaurant food and fantastic doesn't sum it up. Do not be put off by the route into the hotel which at first site look like some sort of seedy, commercial alleyway; it's just traders going about their daily business and actually adds to the atmosphere. Staff were really helpful and friendly too. This hotel is away from the main collections of hotels and all the better for it because the others do not have the views this one has. Loved it and will be back
