Wonderful ryokan in Tokyo in great neighborhood
This was our third trip to Japan and Tokyo. This was our best stay so far- the ryokan proprietor and staff are all very helpful, non-smoking, and have thought out many details needed by travelers. The area is full of interesting sites within walking distance- the loop bus is across the street from the ryokan and can get you easy access to the Ueno zoo. If traveling to and from the Narita airport- the loop bus can get you to the Keisei ueno stop and it's a short walk to the new Keisei skyliner. The ryokan was clean, well laid out, and information about the loop bus was placed by the front door for easy access. The proprietor has a wonderful area map that is incredibly useful for walking the neighborhood. We have a family of four and the room for four was spacious and well laid out. One thing to note is that Japanese silk doesn't always hold up to multiple visitors so there were some stains on the walls here and there- to be expected but just so folks know. We loved our stay and will stay here again.

Excellent home base in Tokyo
Could not have been happier with our Annex Katsutaro Ryokan week-long stay! A perfect home base in Tokyo! We chose Yanaka neighborhood for its proximity to Charming walks, Ueno Park & convenient Metro & JR stations. Mieko-san & staff took lovely care of us, providing spotless affordable tatami room with private bath, also laundry machines, countless maps to navigate Tokyo, and assistance with directions, luggage Takubin & tasty friendly local dining. I will recommend this ryokan Highly to economy minded travellers who want a pristine & Kind home base in artistic historic Yanaka-Ueno, with excellent access to all of Tokyo.

A different experience
It is a mix of western with Japanese. The room was some sort of plain in Japanese style. I was curious to be in that kind of hotel and I don't regret it. The best part was the neighborhood, it was typical Japanese with ordinary people around.
