Great location. Two main issues: Old mattress and there is no elevator. If you walk one block, you can find a better hotel for $20 more

charming hotel
Location is very central and easy to find, room very clean and very charming. Lots of stairs, so not very ideal for anyone physically disabled or elderly. I would definitely stay again here.

Walk up to a nice cozy room
OK, so you need to walk up 5 flights, but these hotels do not have elevators as they are in a historic district. They do not allow them. That aside , it should not stop you from staying in an excellent area with a comfortable room.

We had a wonderful time - the stairs were a bit much with big suitcases - 5 floors - but we made the most of it and had the best time.

DO NOT STAY IN CHELSEA 2!!
I loved the terrace! We had tiny room so it really helped open it up (literally couldn't walk past each other in the room) Up a crazy amount of stairs when you've already walked all day (nasty when you have to carry luggage); shower went from freezing cold to scorching hot in cycles no matter what time we tried to shower, no staff at the hotel so when we tried to check in we couldn't reach anyone. Kept buzzing at the door with no response. Light didn't work on the terrace and they would not provide candles or anything (even after I complained), breakfast was just bad packaged pastries left in a basket for us and I had to go searching for coffee because they kept giving us an assortment of pods for the coffee maker, that only half the time contained any COFFEE. A lot of the positive reviews I read were for the large rooms apparently. I saw the one right next door and I was blown away. It was at least 3X the size of ours with a very nice bathroom. Then insult to injury we found out we paid more than our neighbors! I know because the terraces are only divided by some foliage so you tend to strike up conversations. For reference: we paid 109 euro each week nite, 129 for weekend nites. Sept 2-6, 2014. Just for reference, we booked 3 months in advance to get that rate. The couple next to us who got the huge room booked 4 months in advance and paid only 325 euro TOTAL for Sat, Sun, Mon. So my advice: book crazy early, and get a room other than Chelsea 2.
