Good place to stay and onsen.

10/10 Exceptional

Onsen was very nice and clean. The outdoor area was beautiful! They have everything you need already stocked: shampoo, conditioner, body wash and then towels, hair dryers, lotions and other body care items. If you have tattoos, you will need to cover them before going into the onsen. The front desk sells a pack of 10 tattoo cover patches for 250 yen. We really enjoyed dinner and breakfast and the open bar serving sake, hot wine and beer in the lobby when we arrived was a pleasant and welcomed surprise. The staff was very friendly and accommodating too. Rooms were very clean and premises very well kept. Upon check out, we paid a minimal onsen tax which was about 450 yen. It takes about 45 minutes via taxi from the Nikko train station. The taxi is expensive. You can also take a bus and the hotel can shuttle you the rest of the way from the local bus stop. You will want to make the shuttle arrangements before your trip.

Staff is very accommodating and the service is excellent. The hotel is situated in a very quiet location and 5 minutes from the next bus stop which makes it ideal as base for hiking trips. The onsite onsen has 1 indoor and 2 outdoor baths.

Clean and spacious hotel. Food was 8/10, not the best I've had at Onsen hotels but still good. Staffs service is very nice, classis Japanese hospitality. Onsen is great; definitely liked the outside onsen more than the indoor one. The outdoor onsen had a great view of the mountains, and nice breeze.

Pricy but excellent service
Stayed for 2 nights with my wife for our honeymoon vacation. The Good: * Food was amazing. I can't compare but the kaiseiki dinner was excellent. Had shabu-shabu wagyu, and BBQ pork on two different nights. And the breakfast, some reviews said it was small, but for us Asians, it was already a huge spread, from buttery smoked fish to strawberry yogurt. * Service was really good and professional. I could see they really made an effort to try to speak English. There weren't a lot of foreigners when we stayed. * Room was pretty clean. Traditional ryokan with a solid bathtub. We were facing the lake, and but there were trees blocking the view. We got to see a pack of monkeys though. * Onsen! tried all 3 different temperature springs. My only regret is only going there 3 times. A must-do after a day's touring. The Bad: * Location - seriously, don't believe people saying that you can walk from the bus stop (heck, there's is no proper bus stop with roof). Probably in the morning, yes. But 6pm, with your luggage, with the only light coming from the hotel's signage and the moon? Nope! The location's very secluded, and it's a good getaway if you have your own car. Good thing the hotel has a pick up service if you give them a call. Tip: use Skype or Viber call credits if no SIM card * Price - I wouldn't rate it as 4-star hotel, more like 3 or 3.5. But the price they're asking is for a 5-star hotel. We only ended up with this hotel cause we booked late during peak autumn season
dining area
entrance of the room, left side is to the bathroom, straight is to the beds
requested for a double bed, they combined 2 twin beds in 1 bed sheet, cool
