Luna di Marzo, Riomaggiore

This is an amazing hotel with elegant rooms, fabulous service and an amazing view of parts of Cinque Terre. It is located up in the town of Volastra, not down on Riimaggiore as I thought when booking. The location gives easy access to the less crowded hiking trails, a break from the throngs of people in the main towns, s surrounded by terraced grape and vegetable gardens, and a once in a lifetime view. However the location poses some challenges. Getting up to (and down from) the hotel from the closest train station (Manrola) involves either a significant hike or a shuttle bus that runs every 90 minutes or so. The hike up cannot be done with any luggage, and the shuttle bus can be so crowded you can't get on. Also, there are just 2 mediocre restaurants with in walking distance of the hotel. That said, we really enjoyed our stay, but do wish we were a little more aware of it's location.

Beautiful views. Cannot say enough how nice the patio is at this place. Our biggest problem was that the air conditioner only runs from 5pm-7:30am, and it is pretty ineffective at cooling. Temps were 90º+ (32º C) every day, so coming back to a warm room was the last thing we wanted. Also, this is the only town in Cinque Terre that does not have a train stop, so getting from town to town was a little more difficult. Also, there are only 2 restaurant choices. The breakfast at the hotel was fantastic, and the owners were extremely nice and helpful. Overall, I'd stay here again if it were not in the middle of summer.

The owner almost got into a fist fight with another customer staying at the hotel! My mom was sitting in the lobby when a customer came in to ask a question about their reservation and the owner instantly got defensive and started to yell at the hotel guest. It got so ugly that my mom ended up leaving the lobby and later we found out that it turned physical. I would never recommend this hotel to anyone! We ended up leaving the hotel a day early even though we couldn't get a refund on our last night. The owner stays at the hotel so the lobby and the gorgeous view that you see in the picture shut down at 8:30pm. That means you can't even enjoy the stars or the hotel at night time. The views are nice at the hotel, but you get the same views if you plan on doing any hiking.

Amazing views, beautiful location wish we spent more time. The only issue is the bus schedule and sometimes the bus was very crowded
