Very Good 8.0
Nice family weekend stay. Good location
Usual lovely standard of Novotel accommodation. Great staff service. Only downside was service in Jambalaya restaurant was slow. Food average. Pool facilities were good and solarium great. Pool was bit cold however and spa pool was extension of swimming pool so not very relaxing when as cold as the pool! Overall good value stay and polite, helpful hotel and staff. We would return to this hotel. Location was good as close to tube (Southwark station) but the area is not as busy as north side of Thames.

Fair 4.0
dangerous (disabled) bathroom - beware!
Not up to standard. I was allocated a disabled room (they didn’t tell me - never mind ask me - at check-in) and it was frankly unsafe and uncomfortable. The bathroom was a disaster: a glass shower screen that was wedged onto the bath so I couldn’t “open” it to get in; water temperature was dangerously hot on all setttings other than putting the lever to cold, when it went to tepid and the power of the water reduced; the loo (slightly higher than the norm, as you might expect) has in front of it a tiny sink, so I could not sit straight as it was where my left knee needed to go; for someone disabled, if you need to access the loo from the left side forget it, it was against the wall and only accessible from one side - so please ensure your physician disabilities are on the ‘correct’ side. The response of the reception guy when I complained at check out was complete disinterest. I eventually forced a business card out of him with the generic email address for that particular Novotel. Shocking. And definitely not for disabled people - or someone above 4’11 who wants to sit on the loo!!

Exceptional 10.0
great stay
We had an amazing stay. We had a little problem with the reservation but the Front desk person and Hotel Manager were able to help us and they even compensated us with an upgrade and breakfast. If you want to travel by train there's a train station almost next door. The hotel and room were very clean and comfortable, breakfast was delicious.

Great stay at Novotel Blackfriars with infant
We had a fantastic stay at the Novotel Blackfriars. The staff were very friendly and helpful. They were always immediately offering to help us find a taxi, print tickets or look for information. The pool was nice and the room was spacious for a downtown hotel. The area was lovely and safe - just a few blocks from the river, a block away from a Tesco market, across from three coffee shops, a pub plus it had the restaurant downstairs and it was easily walkable to the Southwark tube station and the city area. The staff provided us with a pack n play for our daughter to sleep in and the room was nicely made up each day and coffee replenished. Having the fridge was great as we picked up snacks from the Borough market (also walkable). We did not hear other guests during our stay on the 7th floor at all. The only note I would express is that the hot tub is part of the pool, so the hot tub is not really hot (I note this because we were hoping to have one for my husband's back at the end of each day. He enjoyed the pool but the heated tub is what we were hoping for). Otherwise, our stay really was perfect. Thank you to all the staff for a lovely trip.

Exceptional 10.0
Novotel isn't cheap (not crazy expensive either) but you get what you pay for and I certainly didn't regret paying more this time (I rarely splash out as I can't really afford to and am usually disappointed when I do). My room was absolutely spotless, spacious, comfortable, and well laid-out; to the extent that I was faced with a dilemma - do I recline on the sofa and watch THIS TV screen? Or do I crash out on the bed and watch THAT TV screen? Okay, so the bath towels were a little small but an oversized robe (well, oversized on me) made up for that. Breakfast was very generous (I do think the scrambled eggs need some work but it's difficult to get them light and fluffy when producing vast quantities) and there's plenty to choose from on the lunch and dinner menus. Above all, what makes Novotel Blackfriars such a lovely place to stay is the staff - very friendly, attentive without being OTT about it, efficient, and always professional. When you've got a busy schedule in frantic (but fabulous) central London, stepping into this hotel is like escaping to a quiet haven away from it all. So that's five stars from me and I'll be keeping a bit aside to make sure I can afford to stay again next time I need to be in the city overnight.
