OK!
There was plenty of snowfall, however more grooming would make the slopes better. The Wi-Fi was fast enough however could be upgraded to a Secure network.

Kirkwood Meadows: the Good and the Not-so-good
Good things first: check-in was very thorough and staff were congenial and informative. The room was attractively decorated. Nice (hiking/snowshoeing) trail from the highway (near the pass) up to the "Sentinels" (rocky cliffs) overlooking Kirkwood. Problems: the room was part of a condo and very small for two people. Pillows were uncomfortable, window blinds needed cleaning. There was a microwave and small frig but no glasses, no utensils, no plates, no table and chairs. The kitchen in downstairs also had no supplies at all. The indoor spa was a good temperature but seemed over-chlorinated. There was only one lamp by the double bed, and it was not bright enough to read by. The Meadows charges $10 extra to get room service or coffee for the coffeemaker beyond one day's worth. The Cornice was pretty good for food and happy hour, but other than that, Kirkwood needs an upgrade in foods and beverages restaurants and general store offer; right now, it's almost all 1960's stuff (burgers, dogs, fries, chili) and hugely overpriced. Attention also needed to recycling -- we found a few bins but doesn't look like they're doing much of it.

Not Worth the $$
It was 'ok'. definitely not worth the money. as soon as you walk in, you see the sink on your right, and bathroom on your left. Definitely need an upgrade i.e. painting etc. there were patches of areas that hadn't been painted... they did touch up but not finished. Strange. The bed was not comfy at all. The amenities were good. The main things that made this not so great of a visit, were the thermostat that was stuck in high 70's so too warm and had to open the window. The other primary negative, was the noise level. not sure why we were given an adjoining room.. as we heard the next couple the whole time. Also, anytime ANYONE used the bathroom from any floor, we heard it. when our neighbors took showers, it was an ongoing whistling sound. to point it woke us up! The wifi is weak too..

Lots of attention needed
It's amazing what $149-$219/night will get one these days.... poor options! We really should have returned to the check in to request a different room as the one we were assigned was not the one pictured online. Meadowside online has a spacious bathroom, fireplace and balcony. Our room had none. We had drug our equipment & luggage to the room before we took assessment of the joint; so we stayed. What I expect in a hotel room: excellent bed, comfortable environment, relaxing shower. What we got: saggy bed, heater that never fell below 73 degrees so had windows open continuously, 2 broken window shades that needed to be tossed up over the valances to let light in, minute TV, shower that sprayed a 16 inch circle, necessitating one rinses one's hair under the faucet vs. shower, front door 'fob' entry system inoperative ... compounded with unlit entry chandelier... so unlocked, dark entry. The positive: hot hot tub, easy check-in & check-out, convenient room door lock pad vs. key, close to slopes, parking pass. I realize now that we've been twice mislead by this company regarding their online photos. Read the descriptions closely; both times the description was correct but the photos were exaggerations of the room.

Off-Season Spooky
Stayed in off-season at this ski resort to see fall color in the area. The halls and public spaces were totally deserted and the only nearby restaurant closed very early. Cavernous emptiness spooked us at first. No groceries except for a tiny "general store". There is really nothing around in terms of services in the off-season. You have to be ready for that. But once we got used to the spooky emptiness of the place, we decided it was actually a pretty good situation. There was good fall color nearby, and the condo was spacious and well appointed. We plan to do it again next year, but bring in our own supplies to cook at the condo.
