Lisboa Carmo Hotel, Lisbon

No lo recomiendo

Excellent

I fell in love with Lisbon, and the Lisboa Carmoa hotel only helped in making me feel that way. It is in the older part of the city, across a lovely square from the ruins of the old Carmoa convent (and a great archaeological museum which is not to be missed!). This was key, and I strongly recommend staying in this part of Lisbon (Chiado/Bairro Alto) though only if you are able to walk hills well! The area offers a combination of old charm with a lot of great restaurants, casas do fado, interesting little stores (and even, if you must, a typical mall hidden in an old building - Starbucks, H&M etc), and from here I walked the city. In this sense, the hotel matches the area well - charming with lovely Luis Camoes quotes on the wall, but also with very clean, very well-appointed and modern rooms. The one thing I would change would be next time to stay on a higher floor with a view, though opening my French doors to a super quiet small street was lovely too. Above all though, it is the staff and service that made my stay exceptional, from the very sweet young man who efficiently checked me in and then spent time poring over a map with me to tell me what he thinks I ought to see, to their happy willingness to change my airport taxi as I needed, and even in the attached restaurant, where they served me a lovely cup of tea while I was waiting for said taxi and then insisted I should not pay for it. This is where I will always stay in Lisbon.

The location is great . It is close to everything. That is why I give it three stars . Bathroom is very uncomfortable, all the water comes out when you take a shower. Cleanliness could be better. Very old towels.

I stayed on the top floor, and it was a beautiful room with beautiful views of the Carmo ruins, the castle, and the harbor. It was very convenient to the older, quaint parts of Lisbon. The room was very cute, and spacious for Europe, with a comfy bed. Food at the restaurant wasn't great, but the service was good.
