A pleasant, nicely located hotel.
I stayed at the Jesselton for 2 weeks. I thought that the price was reasonable. The staff were courteous and helpful at all times. The room itself was well maintained and they offered a laundry sevice that didn't break the bank too much. Having a restaurant attached to the hotel was handy, especially when the weather wasn't so favourable. On the Sunday there was a market right outside the front door that offered all sorts of local trinkets and food, and even fish in bags. It was nicely situated near some good cafes and restaurants and the local taxi and Uber prices were next to nothing so it made getting around Kota Kinabalu very easy indeed. It was good that they allowed, and even arranged, take away to be delivered to your room as some places would frown upon this. All in all, a pleasant stay and just right for my needs. The only issues I had were that the wifi kept cutting out and the plug didn't quite fit in the bath, but I get showers anyway so this didn't really affect me.

Nice location hotel
Stayed here for 2 nights, had a quick check-in, i did requested for a non-smoking room....but soon as I open the door....phew....what a smell ! I was disappointed, but can't be bother to make a complain after a long day. Took a shower, found out the hair dryer could only switched on for 5 seconds ! I finally call the front desk and complain these 2 issues. Fairly quickly a house keeper came into my room with a can of air freshner did a few spray. He also showed me there is another hair dryer at the drawer. Thumb up for this. I stayed on the 2nd floor, i still hear quite a bit of traffic, but is ok for me. 2nd day, I was expecting my bed sheet and towels get changed by house keeper, but nothing has changed! It was a bit late, so i can't be bother again. Overall, i will not come back again.

Central hotel with character
We loved our stay at the Jessleton - the staff were super helpful and friendly. On the last day there was some maintenance work to be done on the hot water system and by way of compensation for our inconvenience we were given a free breakfast which was excellent. Staff also gave us towels to use on our beach trip to Manukan island which we really appreciated. The hotel has a lovely ambiance, our deluxe room on the top floor was spacious and very comfortable- highly recommended.

Historic hotel in the heart of Kota Kinabalu
Love this hotel but feel it’s losing some of its ambience. Some Public hallway seating areas now blocked off & lobby felt crowded & not as stylish as it used to be. Nevertheless I had a fairly comfortable night & was well looked after by the staff in the check in/out & the restaurant where I ate at night. Location excellent but difficult to access by car on Sundays when the Gaya Street morning market is in full swing.

Exceptional 10.0
Best location in town with colonial charm
As a historic boutique hotel, the Jesselton managed to age well even when I am assigned to the older quarter. The room is spacious and clean, with an energetic attendant readily providing me with amenities such as slippers and tea bags that room service may have missed initially. The location is simply unbeatable as you are in the middle of Gaya street with all kinds of restaurants and cafes, and surprisingly the walls and windows are thick enough that you won't hear much noise at night. Just be ready to bring toothbrushes and you will definitely enjoy the stay.
