2 nights for a family of 4
Positives: The hosts were really, really nice and friendly. The property and room had a comfortable ambiance, and the beds were soft. The rooms were large, and there were separate twin beds for our 2 kids. The bathroom had a vent. Parking was convenient with spaces across the street that were free for a few hours during the night and also a garage a short distance down the street with a reasonable rate. Negatives: The bathroom had a lot of areas of mold/mildew around the toilet, including the lid, and also around the shower. In general, the entire bathroom needed a deep cleaning and makeover. It was also very cold in the room without central heat, only a portable radiator. There were no elevators for 3 flights of stairs so I would not recommend this hotel for anyone with trouble walking or who get short of breath easily.

Affordable and charming gem of a place
I stayed here with two friends over the weekend. We loved this place! All the rooms were charming and well-appointed without being fancy. I had a top-floor garret room, which was small, but still pleasant. The downstairs breakfast nook and backyard were charming ... and, good coffee, too! The staff was terrific--very friendly, helpful and accommodating. It's a little off the beaten path, but an easy walk to downtown and areas with good dining. I'd trade a downtown location for this affordable gem any day! I would definitely come back.

Loved it, can't wait to stay again!
We spent the day in Porto just enjoying the city, and this hotel was just perfect for us! Every room has a separate and unique decor, the building is older but remodeled on the interior, and the owner & his staff were incredibly personable. The owner recommended a fantastic wine tour and walking route through downtown that was absolutely breathtaking at sunset. Clean, quiet room despite being located on a busy street (the room we had faced the street but had been retrofitted with an extra set of windows to help with the noise). Parking on the street is a bit pricey, but the hotel gives a slight discount for a garage just down the block - I'd recommend taking advantage of it. Parking and driving in Porto can get a bit unnerving if you're not used to the area, and the downtown lends itself fairly well to walking (a bit hilly overall, not for those with mobility issues).

Worth A Stay in Porto
The guest house is a bit away from the main sights of Porto. The house itself is well maintained. The rooms are clean and comfortable, although on the simple side. Wifi works well. Since it was summer when I stayed, the fan was much appreciated. Just wish breakfast was a bit earlier. Be prepared for a good uphill walk from the Metro.

Comfortable stay in Porto
Me and my friend was staying one night in Álvares Cabral Guest House (twin room with shared bathroom). Room was nice, clean, beds were comfortable, WiFi worked well and the bathroom was clean. The Guest House stuff was very friendly and helpful. Only minus - as our room was on the side of the street, it was quite noisy - not only in the day but also in the night because of the cars.
