Room was a “cabin” in the parking lot. Was fine for us, but a little noisy with the windows open. Breakfast was nice and staff was friendly and helpful..

Acceptable. Just don’t use the bathroom.
Very mixed. Twenty minute wait for breakfast table, another fifteen for breakfast itself. Okay, a full house. But a thank you for your patience, a simple sorry would have eased the aggravation. Plus the bathroom—health department disgusting. Brown effluent erupting on shower floor every time you ran taps. When reported to desk, indifference. Oh, you’re the first to complain about that! We left annoyed and disappointed. No management visible anywhere in this picture. Too bad. Good location. Room otherwise okay.

This is a very basic old hotel. Not the local Hilton by any means. It is on the wall of the city and the highways is just outside that wall so there is some noise.

Castle House Hotel, Canterbury
A Canterbury Classic
The Castle House derives its name from its nearness to Canterbury Castle, literally across the street but unfortunately not much more than a shell. The hotel is also minutes walking distance from Canterbury East, one of the two train stations. It was built almost three centuries ago but has been well maintained and is full of character. The personnel are quite friendly and the personally-cooked breakfast every morning is superb. The only drawback is the traffic, but if you request a room facing away from the roundabout, you won't be bothered. If you like to lay in your own provisions, Aldi is right across the street, via a pedestrian underpass. All in all I can highly recommend the Castle House and would definitely stay there on a return visit to Canterbury, a wonderful city in itself, with the magnificent cathedral about 15 minutes walk.

Great place to stay in Canterbury
My wife and I stayed in the Family Suite due mostly to scheduling challenges through The place is well appointed, has very friendly staff, a decent breakfast, and the family apartment is private and fairly well equipped with a tub and shower and room for a couple and two kids.
