Old but spotless!
A wonderful Hotel, very clean and spacious. But in dire need of updating. But then again, it may have added to the charm.

Needs a refresh
For £125 a night (single rate) I was expecting something a little more special. The sea view was OK but interrupted by a lido. The room reminded me of hotel rooms I stayed in when on holiday with my parents in the 1960s. Antiquated shower with separate hot and cold tapes in tiny en-suite, nowhere to put a toothbrush (the glass holders were there but no glasses!), and nowhere in the shower to put soap or shampoo so you have to juggle them. The TV was mounted high up on the wall, impossible to watch from the table and too high to comfortably watch from the chair. Not sure why they have done this. Room was hot, even with the windows wide open, no A/C or fan - and too close to the main road to leave the windows open when trying to sleep. The location is good, about 20 minute walk to the town centre and bus station, and there is also a bus stop right outside the hotel. Most of the photos on the hotel website are accurate but someone decided to build a power station on the headland behind it! Breakfast was a good buffet selection, with porridge and kippers among the dishes available to order. I think the porridge was probably 'oat-so-simple' or equivalent, but the kippers were good. Efficient service but difficult to get a smile out of the staff. Same selection of background music every day featuring The Who, Free and The Clash - thankfully not too loud so as not to scare the mainly elderly patrons too much! Maybe a bit more variety/easy listening would be good.

Overall I'd recommend it
Hotel is in a nice area, within walking distance of the centre of St. Helier. Bus stop right outside the hotel with a 15 minute service. Hotel staff nice. Breakfast and dinner good although I've seen more extensive buffets. some rooms may be updated but ours wasn't. The bathroom looks tired and shabby but the shower was lovely and powerful. Beds were comfy. Room was spacious but again the carpet looked a little tired and the walls needed a repaint. So, if you can look past the superficial the hotel was good - staff nice, food tasty, location decent, bed comfortable, decent shower then it's a good hotel for the price. I just hope the room is due for a refurb soon.
