The Manager was amazing. He came to help us unload our car top carrier and patiently waited for us as we figured things out. He was helpful and resourceful. All the staff was terrific. The restaurant manager was charming and helpful as well. The restaurant menu was very southern which isn't a favorite cuisine of ours, but nonetheless, we found options that suited us and were quite good. They had a lovely outdoor seating area. The hotel room was very nice. It was large and well air-conditioned plus pleasantly appointed. A nice feature was electronically controlled shades. The beds were comfortable but not amazing. Housekeeping kept up their end of the service too. The hotel appears to be a landmark and a tribute to years gone by. It's beautiful in a small and charming way. So why a 4*? Just small things but... one of the shades was really stained so it made you feel like the room was dirty, The elevator was extremely slow and quite small. They charge $15/night valet parking but there's free WEEKEND parking in the ramp across the street with in-and-out accessibility. The valet guy was trying to tell us that it was better that we use him so we could feel assured that our car was being watched and checked every two hours. It just felt sleazy but he backed down. The whole ramp was empty so it turned out we could park at the hotel side and watch our car ourselves. All this said, we would definitely stay there again.

Great potential with some tweaks, still recommend
The hotel building itself dates back to the 1920's and so it has real style and great bones. The rooms are nicely appointed and the bathrooms are up to date and functional. We stayed 4 nights so got a good chance to evaluate. Glen's restaurant is quite good, great servers, food and nice casual atmosphere, so that's a big plus for this property. Breakfast there was especially good, prices are typical of an upscale hotel $30-35 bucks for two. There are cheaper options nearby, but Glen's was great. The front desk staff was friendly and helpful for the most part. The valet staff also good. Housekeeping needs a lot of work. Third day we left $5 tip in room, put HK light on and came back to see our used glasses still on desk, with drink remnants in them from previous night, Ice bucket with warm water from melted ice and garbage cans not emptied - tip was tidied up though lol. Not the end of the world but surprising and a bit annoying. We let it go. Next day, we left another tip, left the room at 1:30 pm w/HK light on (even told a maid in hallway at noon that we'd be leaving the room in an hour or so) and came back to room at 11pm. As soon as I saw HK light still on I knew they had skipped our room and after being out all day we really wanted to come back to a fresh room. This time I called the Front Desk and got excuses and a bit of an attitude. I called back for Ice, more glasses and some towels, more attitude. FD said they'd inform mgr. but we never heard from her b4 checkout
