Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese Inn, Buxton
Welcoming but in need of that refurbishment
A one night stay for business purposes. Pub itself is quite tired but has a certain village charm - there is refurbishment under way to be fair. I stayed in an annexe room and it was a good size but smelt of chemicals and the bed was quite tired. Nice and warm and quiet though. One issue was lack of toiletries - there were 8 body lotions but no soap or shower gels. Bathroom was good and the shower was effective and warm enough. Breakfast was good and the staff were all friendly. Worth a visit once the refurbishment works are done. WiFi was only in the bar and not that good but this is a village well out of the way.

It's ok for a couple of nights
The hotel is a little rough around the edges the bed was uncomfortable but manageable, the pub is nice enough with a big breakfast to boot, locals are welcoming. The area is extremely quiet with 2 pubs 1 post office and 1 chippy and close quiet early. Nice all round but couldn't help thinking I was a burden on the hotel owners.

Quiet and Rural
The accommodation was booked as an overnight stay for me and a visiting friend from the States. A rural village pub seemed like a nice choice. Reviews initially concerned me until I checked the chronology: a bad patch in later-2016 with a change of ownership, improving steadily thereafter. The pub itself is down-to-earth and unpretentious, and its many rooms make it feel larger than it perhaps is. The accommodation is in a converted farm building directly across the road (and no noise from the pub was heard at all) and is simple and comfortable and clean. On arrival, a double bed had been prepared rather than the twin beds requested, so we were sent to the bar for a free drink whilst someone sorted things out. Once checked in, we walked around the village, which is picturesque and met with the approval of my North American, before returning to the pub to eat. There are a number of other pubs in Lognor but the menu at The Olde Cheshire Cheese looked good, and so it proved. The surroundings aren't swish or plush but as a good, workaday pub with very nice food it hits the mark. Beds were comfortable, the environment quiet, the shower the next morning very good (and enormous). Breakfast is as good as other reviewers have said. Don't expect plush - it's a pub, not a country house hotel - and you may be pleasantly surprised. I'd certainly go back again.
