Old World Charm and superb food
The Pheasant is a beautiful old inn in a great part of the English Lake District. Don't expect a shiny new building; it has great charm and character. The area had just experienced a very bad flood when we were there, but the owners still went out of their way to make people welcome. The food is wonderful - everything fresh and beautifully cooked.

Great Hotel & Bar in the Northern Lake District
This is a really lovely hotel in a lovely part of the lakes. It's set a little out from the usual tourist hubs so it you can really enjoy the peace and quiet. The rooms are quite 'oldie worldie' but in a comfortable, not tired, way. The real winning point is the bar though, they've got a few local ales on tap and must be pushing 50 whisky's. The restaurant food is nice and the bar food is just what you need if you've been up a mountain that day... the breakfasts are cracking too and they'll do you a packed lunch (and there's homemade shortbread's in the room each day which is wonderful). Only negative point is they don't have conditioner or body lotion in the bathrooms. I know they've switched to larger shampoos and soaps for ecological reasons (high five for that) but t this price they should still provide conditioner and body lotion, would be happy with larger bottles of this too. Staff are excellent and there's usually a good bunch of locals in the bar in the evenings who love a chat, overall would recommend.

Very Good8.0
Staff could not have been more helpful. The building was picturesque and set in a nice quiet location away from the main roads. The food in the Bistro was ok and reasonably priced. The bedroom décor was ok, slightly tired, the bed very comfortable, but the bathroom curtain linings had gone mouldy with the humidity.
