The Box House Hotel, Brooklyn
Very Good8.0
Box House is a wonderful choice in NYC. The Greenpoint neighborhood is fabulous. The hotel is well designed, comfortable and feels quite new. The staff is delightful and efficient. There was always a ride available to the train, though truthfully, walking to the 7 or the G is half the fun of staying there. The beds are reasonably comfortable, though I wouldn't complain about an upgrade to better quality. The furnishings are excellent in the rooms and the lobby. Nice art work too. We did not experience noise in the halls as others have. Our upgraded room in the new section was an oasis of calm and especially appreciated, given we had several days of rain during our stay. Some may quibble with the unstocked fridge. we loved that feature and made use of the corner gourmet mart. There are a few small things they could do to make the place feel like a four star: full length mirrors in each room are a must; body lotion was a strange omission as were kleenex and cotton balls in the bathrooms; lighting in the bathrooms is very grim as well and could be improved. An in-room safe is another strange omission. These days, one expects to find yoga mats, a bosu and a foam roller or two as standard equipment in a hotel gym (I've found that all over the world, so why not in yoga obsessed Brooklyn?). Kudos on the sauna and steam--wonderful to have these. The restaurant needs to be better staffed and could use some sound baffling. Service is very slow, though very friendly. Hope to return.
