L'Alcazar, Rabat
L'Alcazar - beautiful but challenging
L'Alcazar is a small riad-type hotel just a block inside the Rabat medina. The hotel interior is physically beautiful and well-kept but the hotel itself is very difficult to find, even for an experienced Rabat cab driver. There appears to be only one full time staff person who handles everything (concierge, checkin, even cooking) but whose lack of English resulted in a very difficult and unhelpful stay (for an English speaking solo traveler myself). The staff person was unable to connect me to cabs, tours or English speaking resources, and some basics (such as batteries for a working alarm clock in the room) were misunderstood or left undone. Other oddities (such as loud playing of American Motown soul music during a mediocre dinner) can speak for themselves. I cannot recommend the hotel for any solo travelers reliant on English or access to local resources. For folks in a tour group with a fixed itinerary and guides, the hotel is probably fine. The website for the hotel bespeaks a level of comfort and convenience which, alas, is inconsistent with reality.

Christmas trip 2017
Excellent service. Very friendly! Nice place and close to city center. In the middle of the old city. The only issue we had no possibility to regulate the heating and it was hot during the night

Nice riad, in need of some refurbishment
I stayed in this riad the last time I was in Rabat in 2015. Since then, the condition and cleanliness of the rooms has declined. There was mold damage in the bathroom and the carpet needed to be replaced. The location is prime, located right next to parking, but I would not stay there again if I didn't have a parking concern.
