Historian Inn, Gardnerville
Rustic and comfortable
Comfortable and clean. Pillows could be upgraded. Our room had a microwave, fridge, hardware floors and great heating system. I will definitely stay here again.

Little surprise
I expected the room to be in an old building, not the case. It was just a regular motel, however, the room was super clean and nice. Definitely staying here again. Close to restaurants, easy to find, quiet. I love it!

A for Effort, C for execution
The presiding thought was “they made an effort” in the recent renovations. We were given an ADA room (which we didn’t need) likes because we scored a sweetheart rate on Too bad we did that to try out the inn as our home base for ski season, because our first and only impression was “meh” because of the room. The ADA room was on the first floor and had laminate wood flooring instead of carpeting. Unless you’re wheelchair bound, this means a frigidly cold floor underfoot. There was also a nearly 1” gap under the door to the outside, creating an icy draft across said floor. We put a blanket down to block the draft, but had we been disabled, this likely wouldn’t have been possible or safe. The walls, headboards, bathroom counter and other appointments in the room were clearly the result of someone hoping to upgrade an older inn, and they suited the place and town nicely. The ADA bathroom left a lot to be desired. The older subway tile, and the toilet with a dangerously floppy lid made it feel....less than. I didn’t get to see a non-ADA bathroom, but imagine they made more of an effort there. The beds were ok soft. The down comforter was a nice weight. The pillows were horrible. They were like your grandmother’s spare pillows that only get pulled out of the closet when there are too many grandkids. Our room was also clearly pet friendly, as there were tiny black dog hairs, and a hair tennis ball under the chair. The staff was kind and friendly.

Great place
Really enjoyed the stay here. Friendly staff, quiet hotel, directly in the center of town. This is not some FANCY place, just a good solid family type place that had great beds and is PET FRIENDLY.
